Had cold sores since I can remember as a child. About 2 or 3 years ago I set out doing hard research on a natural approach to stop this madness.
I've found if I keep my immune system healthy, I do not get any cold sores.
I take vitamin B, C and D at least once a day and most days vit C 1,000mg 2 or 3 times (morn, noonish, night) when really stressing or other reasons my immune system may be slugish! sugar intake hinders immune system!).

During my research I read in numerous articles written by doctors that vitamin C can overcome many types of virus.
It is a very powerful immune system booster that many people are unaware of.
So this is not just helping me avoid cold sores, but I also have not had a cold or other sickness during this time.

The big thing to take from my story is you can do this easy and cheaply and win the battle.

Know your body. Know when you are stressed and clean up your diet.

There are other factors that come in to play. Like L-Arginine versus L-Lysine. These are 2 amino acid present in proteins. L-Arginine can fuel the growth of cold sores, but L-Lysine can compete with L-Arginine for absorption. So many foods can lend themselves to the trigger of cold sores that you may not be aware of. L-Arginine is in coffee, nuts, chocolate etc (my favs). L-Lysine is in dairy, etc. Do your own research to find food list that contain each. This knowledge can help you along your way in becoming cold sore free. BTW, I drink coffee and eat nuts and dark 72%+ chocolate every day with no outbreaks. I do consume my own homemade milk kefir also daily to have a high dose of L-Lysine and probiotics to strengthen my immune system.

Just wanted to add, as far as I know, maximum our body can absorb Vit C is only 2000 mg/day. So if we take 3000 mg it will be wasted 1000 mg.

correct me if I'm wrong.. :)

I have read in numerous places that your body can certainly use more vit c than even 3000 mg in a day especially if your immune system is in a weakened state and with multiple spaced out administering.

Common Vitamin C
The typical problem is that most people may suffer from over 1000-2000 mg "at one time". This is a key phrase. With common vit C (water soluble/digested in the stomach), you will see doctors recommend vit C and use the phrase "to bowel tolerance". This means if you want the most your stomach can handle at once, there is a trial phase needed for your own body's limit and you would need to gradually increase your consumption until your stomach is affected since too much in the stomach at once will upset it. But know that over the coarse of a day you can take more to keep a constant supply in your blood stream. This is why I stated taking more around noonish and again at dinner time. My body can handle 1000-1500mg at least 3 times daily.

Enter New and improved Vitamin C.
HOWEVER!!! now we enter a new technological advancement with vitamin C. Encapsulated Vitamin C or Liposomal vitamin C. Since vit C is water based you are limited to how much you can take at once unless you change this dilemma by encapsulating it in an oil based product. This allows it to pass to your intestines to be absorbed and not upset your stomach.

I also failed to mention the herb I first began using instead of valtrex as a treatment, Chaparral.

It is cheap and easy to keep around in the event that you feel one coming on or know your body is in weak state and needs protection from the virus.

This works solid, but not intended for long term use just as anything powerful (herb or drug).

As always, do your own research for your own benefit and satisfaction.

How about Buffered Vitamin C powder, I get it from Life Extension , they have high quality stuff. What you think? Also I always mix teaspoon with 8oz Orange juice or Pomegranate Juice. I pee as yellow as the sunshine :) !

      Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

      Hey @WilsoInAus miałam dzisiaj wizytę u dermatologa, gdyż dostałam zmian w pachwinie, w trakcie wakacji nad morzem. Udałam sie tam ze zmianami w postaci strupów. Powiedział ze nie można wykluczyć opryszczki mimo negatywnego wyniku Hsv igg i zalecił wymaz z pochwy na Hsv i inne choroby.
