What to do about the condom not covering all of me?

Hey all!

I want to have sex with my female partner (who does not have herpes, while I do).  I am already on the anti viral pill and I was thinking that I would like to have more protection around the condom.

Has any one tried a Scroguard? https://scroguard.com/how-it-works/

If so I would very much like to hear your experience.

Looks interesting - seems a lot of people mock and laugh at it? I don't understand some people, how is it a bad thing to want to protect someone you care about? Sure it might look silly and what not but who cares!

If I had used something like this, I would be herpes free today.  I wore a condom while having a one night fling with a friend who I knew was promiscuous.  Several weeks later I got sick and did not know why.  I had mono like symptoms so I got tested for Mono.  The test came back negative.  I started reading about all the symptoms that I was having and then came across herpes.  I looked all over my body and then I saw it...  There was a dark red dot the size of a dime to the left of my genitals.  It was not painful, but the doctor confirmed it was herpes.  The bad news is that I was in the habit of shaving my genitals and I had already shaved over the area a few days before.  Shaving spread the infection to the entire pubic hair region but not my penis.  Over the next few months I had small breakouts on my inner thighs and pubic hair region.  I take Valtrex and the symptoms go away within 24 hours.  There are three reasons for my post. (1) had I known that the condom was not going to protect me I would have never had sex. (2) I use to believe that shaving my pubic hair kept me clean.  In reality if I had kept hair around my genital area, the skin probably would not have touched hers in that spot and I might have been better protected. (3) Everything on the internet says that auto-inoculation is not common due to your body making antibodies from the initial infection.  This is not true.  I have since spread it to the lower part of my leg. This was just last year.  I had a repeat of the mono like infections and it was like getting herpes all over again.

I have to say that the pain from herpes is extremely mild.  On a scale 1-10, (10 being the worst) I would give the pain a 1 or 2.  My problem has been 100% mental. I feel dirty. I feel ignorant for thinking that condoms provide full protection.  I wish I had known.  I also feel scared that I will pass this on to my wife.  (I contracted herpes 12 years ago)  When I saw the photo of these pants that protect the area, I think it is a great idea!  I would wear this to protect my wife.

(1) Never trust condoms.

(2) Do not shave your pubic hair.  It is there to protect you.

(3) It will spread later on if you are not careful.

Thank you!

Using this device still won't guarantee that you won't spread this virus to a partner.  Genital herpes resides in the sacral ganglia nerve system and if you were to look that up you will see that nerve system goes from the base of your spine down your legs, so there is still plenty of areas that this device does not cover that you could transmit the virus.

Only abstinence will protect your partner 100% but if they accept the risk you can still have a normal sex life without having to buy this diaper looking thing.  Personally I have been with approximately a dozen women over the years and have never passed this along and almost all my sex was unprotected (their choice).  I know married people who have been married decades and never passed it to their spouse and never used protection.  Most people get this from someone who does not know they have it, not from someone who does.  Taking antivirals reduces the risk significantly and abstaining from sex when you have symptoms also helps.

There is no reason you can't have a healthy sex life!

Antivirals. Take them as prescribed. Worry less.

You said you are already on them - if you've had herpes for over a year, your chances of transmission are super low.

Reducing friction by using lube is supposed to help reduce transmission rates as well. The virus is transferred by micro tears in the skin after all.

@Condomsdon'tprotect it doesn't sound like you have herpes. Have you had an IgG blood test?

WilsolnAnus,

Two doctors told me the same thing.  I tested positive for a HSV blood test.  The person who gave it to me was tested positive for genital herpes.  She was diagnosed through a vaginal swab, not a blood test.  So we know she had it at that area.  To this day she has never had a symptom.  I get the sting right before then the red blister appears a few hours later.  The Valtrex makes it go away pretty quick.  I managed to spread it around a lot.  I spread it through drying off my leg with towel.  It was already on my upper thigh now it is on my entire leg.  I got mono like symptoms all over again when it spread, then the itching appeared now red blisters appear all over my legs.  I no longer believe that HSV antibodies stop the auto-inoculation.   I did not have herpes I would be ecstatic!  There are too many symptoms that tell me that I do.  I hold out for hope that one day a therapeutic vaccine will come!  Hopefully within the next 5-10 years we can have something new for treatment!  From all the research I have read scientist are making great headway as far as vaccines and treatments for several diseases.  They cured Hep C, and they are working constantly on curing, preventing herpes.  It will come.  There will be a day no one has to worry for this!

Thanks

Are you sure you are infected? Are you sure these are herpes lesions? What was the blood test result? I think you may be stressing too much over misdiagnosis! If she hasn't had a lesion, what did they swab and why?

Just another set of supporting articles to a potential release date in 2024 giving hope to sufferers whom the standard of care is currently worthless: Promising Progress in clinical trials for Pritelivir (herpescureadvocacy.com) HSV Treatment Readies for Approval — Precision Vaccinations News

I have not found a cheaper source for Amenalief, and I've searched high and low. I have a thread called "Pritelivir at Last" you may want to follow as I have a strong belief that It may be available to the public in the summer of 2024 and as I find new info, I update the thread immediately. Now, may I suggest a combination of drugs that several others on this forum have found to be very effective over acyclovir alone? Myself and others have found that taking 40mg of omeprazole (Tagamet @dissolvedo2 ) with 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the morning and 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the evening alone for 3 days have had profound effectiveness at stopping outbreaks in their tracks. I'd like to remind you that I am not a doctor and at best I am personal researcher for what works for me. I @lw@ys share my findings with the forum in the hopes to help others alleviate their suffering. There is another drug combo that I have tried myself as well as others on this forum have tried and that I personally feel is a much more effective for myself. This combo is 1 gram of activated charcoal with 1-gram of valacyclovir in the morning followed by 1 gram of valacyclovir in the evening alone, again for 3 days. I have found that this has reduced my outbreaks to almost only once a year and they are mild at worse. Again, just a reminder that this works for me and may not work for you but I always feel that i have to share this with anyone that cannot get this virus under control so I hope my findings can help those of you who cannot achieve relief with the standard treatment alone. The stronger anti-virals come with risks and if I can help anyone avoid those risks then by all means I feel I have done some good in this world. I only ask that you let me know if either of these suggestions work for you so that I can document it in my notes. Good luck my friend!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti
