Periods and HSV2 - Looking for Advice

Recommended Posts

I have posted about this recently but still looking for some more advice and knowledge.

I have HSV2 vaginal and have been itching for about a week now. I just got my period today and still feeling a bit itchy. I have no other symptoms of an OB yet but I have only had one thus far so I'm really not sure if I'm going to have one soon? or can itching just be a part of getting my period now? I also had a bit of white discharge so I thought it could be a yeast infection but sometimes I get that before periods as well.

Just wondering if anyone else gets itchy down there before periods.. and if you do does it always result in an OB?

Do periods "always" cause OBs? I have read that quite a bit online. And finally, can I wear a tampon?

Thanks for all feedback.

  • 2 weeks later...

I finally had a period after coming off my shit. It took almost two weeks for me to have this on but I experienced the itching .  I used a tampon but it was uncomfortable...the string irritated me but not as much as wearing the pads.

I have HSV2.  I only have very mild external outbreaks with one blister at a time (thankfully) however, mine are hormonally triggered.  So I would have an outbreak after my period every month I have only had HSV2 for 3 months.  I do have itching before and during my period but I don't get an actually blister until after.  I am now on suppressive therapy so hopefully I won't have one this month!!

I've noticed that my HSV2 outbreaks, while not frequent, do coincide with the week right before my period. I don't think its a hard and fast rule for periods to affect OBs but it sounds like it definitely can be a thing for women.

Everyone's body and immune system is different. I try to record my outbreaks and periods, and I recommend that to everyone. It helps you to get to know your body and its triggers better!

I have mentioned elsewhere my completely unsubstantiated theory that, since herpes is sexually transmitted, what better way than to make you horny before an outbreak?

Or, in this case, to pop up when you are more horny, which, for many women Google tells me, is before their period.

My 2c worth.
