I don't feel like myself and that I'm in a empty shell. How can I start feeling like myself again? I want to know how to regain my state of mine. What are some things I can do emotionally?

If u let this virus weigh you down and dominate your life you will sink lower and lower !!!!

first thing on your way to dealing with this is a positive state of mind ????

one it will help you deal with the medical side of things better, it's a virus, you aren't terminal !!!!

second just remember there are lots of things out there worth getting out of bed for !!!!

you have to help yourself coz no other person is going to do it for you !!!!

hi, hello and welcome to the real world !!!!

Hi L.D. and welcome.

How long that you will feel like you do is a tough question because it depends on so many factors. How long have  you been diagnosed? What type do you have? How old are you? Are you in a relationship?

The general answer would be it depends. It depends if you are a fighter. If you are then you will find that the true you cannot be defined  by this virus. Yes it does affect us in physical and psychological ways but don't let it consume you or become  something it is not.

Many people have it and have adjusted their life to it and are able to do and be everything that they set out to be. Yes dating can be a challenge.

Learn more about it and you will see that it is manageble. The good news is that they are working on various vaccines that may offer substantial relief from this virus and make it inconsequential.

Hang in their stay positive. Get some therapy if you can. Talk to people here and get support. You going to feel better but I cant promise you will ever feel the same as before you got it. You will make peace and learn to live fully with it. You will be happy again, love again and laugh again.

Hello. Look up a modality called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I do a simple tap using my thumb and index finger. That can be done anywhere, anytime, mostly unnoticed. I have proven the value of this to myself over and over and it is really handy when under a great deal of stress to get through the situation. You may not feel the effects until you say exactly the right words to yourself but when you do it is like having the weight of the world lifted off your mind. Keep talking to yourself, as only you know the negative that is bothering you then find a positive around it to cancel it out. The positive is not always what you expect so just keep talking. I was in great stress over losing my career that was my passion. Lots of negatives around that. I was in a situation where I thought I had to leave immediately, as I was falling apart, so I tapped and talked to myself. I kept saying my obvious negatives then I heard myself say..."Yes, but at least I had over 20yrs of living my dream and probably the other 2 thousand people here were not that fortunate!" The release was unbelievable and unforgettable. I tap around any stressful thoughts or meetings. Our life and how we deal truly is in our own hands.

Those are all great words of wisdom.

emotionally I'm starting to feel better but my Phsyical pain is still there. How long did it take for all of your immune systems to really luck in and help you feel better?

Any day now!

More seriously, we are the ones who support our immune systems with our emotions and nutrition. Once we find what is good and bad for our own chemistry we can learn to keep things in check. This explains why some have great success with something like Lysine (for example) but others, not so much. Until my chemistry changed I was able to do anything and everything I wanted, with only minor restrictions.

Hi "Jeremy"..... I agree, the topic of your HSV status does not need to be something you disclose too soon in a developing relationship..... get to know each other first....see how it's going and as it progresses, then the HSV issue will naturally need to be revealed.... it's my personal opinion though that before there is any sexual encounter you ought to disclose your HSV status.... I know some will disagree with me on this but, I think it is morally wrong not to disclose first.  This can be a make/break situation for most people but, again, I feel it is simply wrong not to give the other person the whole story since your decision not to disclose could put their health at risk.... that is simply not an option in my opinion.  Looking back to my "pre-HSV" life I most certainly would want my partner to disclose their HSV+ status before intimacy so that I could make my decision as to whether I want to take that risk or not....

Thanks, CHT. I appreciate the feedback. The whole trauma of going through this has led me to figure out a lot about myself and my attachment wounds, so I'm taking courses to come out of this better. This girl really was my dream woman in so many ways, it's been the hardest heartbreak to deal with ever. I'm truly in a lot of pain, but using the pain as fuel to launch that new business and work with coaches. I also opened up to my family about HSV, so my parents and sister know now, and they were very loving and accepting of it. Since opening up about it, I feel way better around this thing. After opening up, I also found out that some mutual friends in our family have discordant couples who are married with children, so HSV hasn't stopped them from living a loving life. The thing is... all of these couples I mention did not disclose until 6-8 months into the relationship. So now I'm thinking it might be better not to disclose until I know things are very serious. I'll of course stay on the medication and use protection, but maybe this is a better route than disclosing upfront and scaring women off.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.
