Looks like AiCuris is gearing up to start Phase 3 next year.  Side note:  This was supposed to be fast tracked by the FDA.  This doesn't seem like it has been fast tracked to me. Poor AiCuris has been working on this for years and because of some toxicity in primates at 90 times the normal dosage, it's been an uphill battle to get this approved.  It looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel but at what price.  I mean price as in what will it cost?  If a company is hindered and has to spend untold amounts of money to get a product to market, who pays for it?  Usually the patients.....sorry for the sad spin but it's just frustrating to see this kind of governance. Silver lining, maybe will have Pritelivir as an option by 2021.   http://www.aicuris.com/127n143AiCuris-Provides-Corporate-Update.htm Internal development program Pritelivir – Phase 2 trial ongoing, AiCuris to conduct Phase 3 pivotal trial in Acyclovir resistant HSV infections in immunocompromised patients Pritelivir (AIC316) is a highly potent inhibitor of herpes simplex virus (HSV) replication and is active against both HSV types 1 and 2. Pritelivir belongs to a new chemical class and acts via a novel mechanism of action. In contrast to currently used nucleoside analogues, Pritelivir does not require activation by viral enzymes and can thus protect uninfected cells. Pritelivir also retains activity against viruses which have become resistant to current standard of care drugs. Pritelivir has demonstrated superior efficacy in a Phase 2 trial compared to the standard treatment, valaciclovir, and is currently in another Phase 2 trial in immunocompromised patients with acyclovir-resistant infection. AiCuris plans to initiate a pivotal Phase 3 trial with Pritelivir in HSV infections in 2020.
