I am no expert, and this may not help you to read, but I have not been sexually active in over 6 years and my first outbreak was almost two years ago. It seems the virus' ability to lay dormant means pinpointing the exposure can be difficult. I was only ever with my ex, but he was sleeping around. In the time we were together he never presented with symptoms. To my knowledge, he still doesn't. So when did I get this?  When did he? Those are things I will probably never know. I try not to dwell on it. The important thing now is to take care of your health and do everything you can to prevent spreading the virus. If your girlfriend tests negative, do what you can to keep her that way.

Did your first outbreak include the flu symptoms that usually come with a primary outbreak ?

It couldn't lie dormant than produce primary outbreak symptoms could it?

I was just diagnosed last week. I never had primary outbreak symptoms. My doctor told me it varies with every person and i could have had it for years with no symptoms. They actually didn't think mine was herpes because the lesion was so small and wasn't a blister or ulcer it looked like i scratched myself. She only swabbed me because it was my second unexplained"cut".

I contracted the H in 2007 and the lovely girl told me after a month or so from our relation so honestly I didn't know anything about and told her ignore it I don't care and I did the test after few months and came back positive I never showed any symptoms till Jan 2016 imagine and still no blisters or lesion only hell of burning sensation and itching which lasted for few months till now and nothing is helping this valtrex and acyclovir are sh!t and do nothing as well lyrica for the nerve pain does noting. Anyway herpes does not kill you . Stress will definitely kill you and I could die anytime due to heart attack or stroke let's see since I don't care anymore

Honestly, I had several outbreaks before I finally had one looked at. My outbreak sites are not genital or oral. I thought they were strange spider bites. It wasn't until they came back several times (always in the same places--those are some very specific spiders! 9_9) and I began to see a pattern, that I decided to do research and then ultimately go seek medical help. I don't recall flu like symptoms on the first outbreak but on subsequent ones I have had that, along with depression. My initial outbreaks were all just the swelling, itching, pain cycle of the lesions, as much as I recall. It is hard for me to remember since it was maybe close to two years ago. It has also taken several tests to finally have one show a positive result.

Have you tried tea tree oil? I am not sure if it works if your pain has been prolonged, but it is worth a try since nothing else seems to give you relief. I used it at the beginning of an outbreak and then never even had the lesions erupt. The initial nerve pain that I feel as an outbreak starts went away too. It's just a suggestion. Do your own research, but it is an option.

I have not show any symptons for more than 9 years and i have the diagnosed after almost 4 months of the exposure till  mid of this year I started out breaking every months and non stop nerve pain, so she/ you could have it for years without any symptons and if she saying that she had sed with you only that means she was a virgin! Anyway blaiming and pointing on each other won't help just live with it till the big pharma allowed the cure i believe the cure is there already but for the big pharma this is big lose since they are selling the medicine for almost 1 billion people combined HSV1/HSV2

Everyone is different. I had symptoms within HOURS of contracting it. I had sex and woke up with two small wet ulcers that were excruciating to touch. I though I was bit by something. Within the day, my lymph nodes were badly swollen and my legs felt like 100 pounds each. I just remember I was in a store and had to stop because I couldn't move. I thought my legs were paralyzed.

And how do you feel now ! My major problem is the nerve pain in my right leg and back all the time no visible sores/ blister just itching sometimes and as I have mentioned previously it took more than 9 for this to happen. I don't mind few outbreaks /year it's the nerve pain which is killing me and interfing in my life and daily activities which I don't do anymore

About one small outbreak every 5 weeks or so (sucks) and tailbone pressure/pain/crawling sensation almost constantly hate this symptom. Thigh nerve sensations come and go too. Oh and lower back itchiness at times. Basically most days I can "feel" the virus..ugh. The only peace of mind I have is that that the virus is fairly predictable. In other words, I know the syptoms that I will have, unlike other diseases that progress.

The major trigger for the virus is stress specially for men, as I habe previously mentioned no outbreak in 9 years and I knew that I have herpes for all of these years but due to hell of stress I ended up with the most horrible nerve pain, I would anything to eliminate or at least reduce the pain nothing is working so far on Sunday I am having appointment with the specialist and hoping for solution. Let's see

Absolutely. I have noticed that the more I think about herpes, the more outbreaks I get. Who knows what drives this creepy virus. Taking an a low dose asprin may help with your nerve pain, because it will reduce inflammation. Herpes often tricks the immune system by causing mild inflammation, which distracts immune cells and allows the virus to run along the nerves. Reducing inflammation will help allow immune cells to keep the virus in check.

Something else to try is tumeric (or may also be called curcumin when it is a capsule). I have not tried it personally for any symptoms, but my mom uses it regularly for pain and inflammation (from multiple traumas). It's natural and has really worked well for her. I hope you get relief and your appointment goes well Sunday!

@WilsoInAus do you really thing that above my symptoms are Herpes related? Or it may because of Herpes zoster shingles? Bcz of this my Igm is positive?
    • Nameshame
@WilsoInAus i requested my partner, but they are refusing from testing and saying they dint had any symptoms. Now the only way i left is to wait untill 12 weeks window period right? I am not getting what to do in this case. Any suggestion for any other tests?

Hi "Jeremy"..... I agree, the topic of your HSV status does not need to be something you disclose too soon in a developing relationship..... get to know each other first....see how it's going and as it progresses, then the HSV issue will naturally need to be revealed.... it's my personal opinion though that before there is any sexual encounter you ought to disclose your HSV status.... I know some will disagree with me on this but, I think it is morally wrong not to disclose first.  This can be a make/break situation for most people but, again, I feel it is simply wrong not to give the other person the whole story since your decision not to disclose could put their health at risk.... that is simply not an option in my opinion.  Looking back to my "pre-HSV" life I most certainly would want my partner to disclose their HSV+ status before intimacy so that I could make my decision as to whether I want to take that risk or not....

Thanks, CHT. I appreciate the feedback. The whole trauma of going through this has led me to figure out a lot about myself and my attachment wounds, so I'm taking courses to come out of this better. This girl really was my dream woman in so many ways, it's been the hardest heartbreak to deal with ever. I'm truly in a lot of pain, but using the pain as fuel to launch that new business and work with coaches. I also opened up to my family about HSV, so my parents and sister know now, and they were very loving and accepting of it. Since opening up about it, I feel way better around this thing. After opening up, I also found out that some mutual friends in our family have discordant couples who are married with children, so HSV hasn't stopped them from living a loving life. The thing is... all of these couples I mention did not disclose until 6-8 months into the relationship. So now I'm thinking it might be better not to disclose until I know things are very serious. I'll of course stay on the medication and use protection, but maybe this is a better route than disclosing upfront and scaring women off.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.
