Advice desperately needed

Recommended Posts

Please bear with me, because this is a bit detailed.

About 6 months back, I tested positive for both HSV1 & 2 (IGG) after having a couple canker-like sores inside my mouth along with a couple of flat sores down there, which I noticed in the shower. When I was diagnosed, it was at a very stressful time in my life which must have lowered my immunity to produce my first symptoms in memory. My doctor was casual about my results, saying it was not something I needed to worry much about and that it was very common, and given I likely had this for years (anywhere from 6-12 years, given my sexual history and given that I have been celibate and single for 6 years). This was my first ever bout of mild symptoms, and he thought I might not necessarily have an outbreak again. I put it out of my mind and was relieved that my symptoms cleared up quickly.

A couple months after I was diagnosed, I met someone (a woman, I am a lesbian) who pursued me and things between us moved quickly. For the most part, we have only kissed a few times but one night we both had a bit to drink, and we ended up in bed briefly. For a very brief moment, the only contact she had with me is that she touched me down there (fingered me for less than half a minute), but she did touch herself at some point after.

A few weeks later, I noticed another small sore down there when I was in the shower, and I understood that I would need to share this with her if things were to progress, as I was having my first recurrence. I did some research on safe lesbian sex and herpes and was gutted to read that it can shed silently even without symptoms present. My ex-girlfriend used to occasionally get cold sores on her lip when stressed and I knew never to kiss her then, but I never imagined that this could be contagious without a visible sore present.

I am absolutely distraught, and plan on speaking to her as soon as she is back from travelling. I am beside myself that I may have passed this on to her but want to approach the subject carefully and calmly with her so I don't completely freak her out, and also to arm myself with the facts. I have never been in a more miserable position in my life and could really do with some advice. She is the sweetest person and someone I began to really care about and have feelings for. I never would have knowingly put someone at risk, but I was completely under/misinformed about how this virus works.

From everything I have now read, it seems like the risk to her would probably have been low, but at the moment my life has turned into a shell of what it was. Any advice on how to approach this talk would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone. Yesterday during the afternoon this sore popped up in the back of my throat/tonsil. I was hoping maybe today it would be gone, but it is still there and I have a worry it may be herpes. It is improving, but it hurts when I swallow. Also it is really red and irritated. Does anyone have an idea if this is a canker sore or something else?

Hi, I am in a state of freaking out currently because around 2 days ago a red cut formed on my gums, randomly. Then the next day it began to become sore. I have been sexually active in the past but I have never had a cold sore. Please can someone help if this is a canker or herpes sore. I'm terrified

I’ve been diagnosed with hsv1 and have had some cold sores on the inside of my lips.
I’ve been diagnosed for some time with that. But around July 2020 I went in for an std panel and to my surprise my hsv2 IGG levels were equivocal.
My doctor at the time told me that I indefinitely had hsv2 although I’ve never had any symptoms.
This began a whole craze. I switched doctors and ordered another hsv2 test that also came back equivocal and was told that what the first doctor said was correct, that I do in fact have hsv2.
The fact that I wasn’t testing positive and none of my past sexual partners tested positive led me to think I should keep getting tested to confirm whether I do or don’t have it.
So I went for the third test and it was .72 IGG which would be a negative. (Around July 2020 as well)
I was still a little confused so I went for another a couple months later in October 2020, this hsv2 test was .89 IGG which is right under equivocal but still negative.
So armed with this data I went to a private doctor that I paid out of pocket for because I began to think that the Medicaid doctors might be wrong and maybe underpaid or whatever I dunno it just didn’t make sense. So I went to the private doctor and at the time I had what seemed to be like a small ingrown hair and I showed them and showed them my data. They said based off the ingrown hair that it was just an ingrown hair, and that the lab results were correct and that I had no hsv2 and that the prior doctors were wrong. The doctor said I should’ve never been tested because I never had any symptoms prior to that small ingrown hair.
So this made me happy but also made me lose faith in our healthcare system.
But just recently I went back for my 10 panel and on 6/9/2021 my hsv2 results were 1.11 IGG which indicates I am positive. This is driving me crazy and on a side note I noticed that my hsv1 IGG levels were both gradually going up as the hsv2 was creeping up. I dunno if there’s any correlation there but it’s just something I went back to look at out of curiosity because I do know I’m hsv1 positive.
At this point I just want to know if I am in fact hsv2 positive, what should I do? I want to get the western blot test because it’s supposedly the golden standard.

      Hello,
I was diagnosed with hsv1&2 earlier this year. I was prescribed 1g of valtrex (valacyclovir) a day for suppressive therapy.  Valtrex helps greatly with my symtoms, but I recently had to leave my job for health reasons and will no longer have health insurance to get prescribed valtrex.
Does anyone know where I can purchase valtrex (valacyclovir) online without a prescription?

Hey @Fernie hope you are going well. The doctor is spot on here. Many people with HSV-1 end up with slightly elevated results for HSV-2 that does not indicate infection with HSV-2. This persists from test to test for some people. The Westernblot would be useful to you, but will just confirm what is being said to you. Most people actually with HSV-2 test above 3.5 on those sorts of tests.

Just got off the phone with a doctor and they said based off the history of my tests, it’s most likely a false positive.    they also said that because I have hsv1 that that could be causing the false positive

How do you know you have hsv-2 orally.  I read that having hsv-2 orally is highly unlikely.

I’m so confused and don’t know what to do.    Sorry for posting here so much but I’m just lost.   I’ve tested normal on these dates 7/14/2020 0.72 IGG , 10/28/2020 0.89 IGG.    Then I tested low positive 6/6/2021 1.11 IGG.    I went back after that test to confirm the abnormal results on 7/29/2021 0.78 IGG were the results which led me to believe that the first abnormal results were just wrong.    Fast forward to now I just got my results back this morning from 11/27/2021 1.17 IGG, were the results. I’m just so confused, don’t know what to do. I’m going to have a consultation over the phone with a physician today and I also reached out to Terri from Westover Heights.    At this point I’m considering a western blot and I’m so paranoid I also signed up for another full panel std testing. I’m just so confused and stressed out.  Hope my buddy @WilsoInAus sees this
