Rational Vaccines: A case study in pharma deregulation.

As the debate picks up steam in Washington, Rational Vaccines is fast-tracking its live attenuated vaccine for the herpes simplex virus (HSV) to the market — wherever that may be. Enrollment will soon begin for trials in Mexico and the Caribbean, following a single Phase 1 study of 20 patients in the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis.

“Mexico has about a four-to-five year window for sales if the trials go as we think they’ll go,” Fernandez said in a recent phone interview. “We’re doing trials in the Caribbean as well and we’ve been approved for sale in a couple of jurisdictions in the Caribbean.”

The move is less about rebelling against the FDA and more about getting to patients as soon as possible, Fernandez said. The U.S. won’t be ignored, but it’s a much longer path-to-market.

So it's safe to say the vaccine will be available in Mexico in about 5 years? Seems like a pretty long time. Will it be available in the Caribbean anytime soon?

I believe he said there will be trials soon in Mexico and the Caribbean. Have you signed up for a trial. Sales of meds in about 5 years in Mexico.  Read it again...

Yeah. For planning purposes it would be easier traveling to Mexico. Cheaper too given where I am located in the US. I guess the Caribbean will have to do.

I haven't signed up for the trial. I figured once it was available I would just go and get the vaccine. I only have about 1 or 2 outbreaks per year. They are very minor outbreaks and I don't take meds. I'm wondering if it would even benefit me.

While it is not a functional cure does not excite me, even if it is beneficial to the pain can still transmit this damn virus, but I recognize the work and the will

Una de Mientras no se cura funcional mar no me emociona, mar AUNQUE beneficiosa para el dolor AÚN SE Puede trasmitir Este maldito virus, Pero reconozco El Trabajo y La voluntad

Same here. Initially I was going to wait for shedding data. The Caribbean trips will probably be a $10,000-$15,000 investment and we live in the states. It's 3 shots after all, so 3 trips. The Mexican trials would be ideal. I would get those in a heart beat even without shedding data.

It's probably best to just buy 3 separate vacation packages. I am seeing around $1300 per package that covers 4 days. I haven't looked at Expedia yet. Cheapcarribean.com

I agree that Mexico would be ideal for those of us living in the US but I'd like to think the Caribbean trips could be done for well under 10k. I mean provided each trip duration down't have to be longer than a few days that is.
