Has anyone out there had chest tightening side effects to this drug?  My chest is so tight but also could just be from the stress of it all....

I did not but I suspect the stress is definitely a part of it! However, if you're really worried, definitely seek medical care because it's better to be overly cautious than not cautious enough and end up really sick or hurt.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi, what's your dose?  Might try halving it and working up.  The only side effect I've had from valtrex is being suuuuuuper tired.  Anyone else had that?

It totally a diuretic.  I have never performed so much! Which means u have to drink more water to keep hydrated. Use to make me a bit loopy. I take my dose at night...dr said that was ok

The only side effect I get from Valtrex is bad headaches when I first start suppression or bump up to an ob dose. I recommend trying to drink a glass of water when you take it. Chest tightness could certainly be from stress.  A great way to combat that is to do some heart opening/chest opening yoga postures and breathing exercises. If you are holding tension, really work on inner focus and awareness, slowly moving/articulating/breathing. You can use that breath to fill up and stretch out all that tightness in a way that is kinder to your body and more effective than just trying to force it open.
Here's a short video to peek at if you're interested (local classes would also be great to check out):

I was just looking for a forum like this. I was taking Valtrex 500 everyday and i started noticing lower back pain.  i started drinking more water to see if that would help. It did not. I stopped taking the Valtrex and the pain went away. I started taking it again and my lower back started hurting again. Has anyone experienced this?

@kaybeauty if you can, check with your doctor - lower back pain could be an indicator of kidney issues. It's not common but can happen.

@luvurself16 taking Valtrex over a period of time can lead to lower Igg levels, but the extent of the effect varies from person to person and has no correlation to symptoms

I have experienced this only when I was on a 1000 a day during an OB that happened in spite of the daily 500. It felt like it was my kidneys. I am so sure about that because it felt the same (though a bit weaker fortunately)  as what I felt during a jiu jitsu session when someone hit me in the kidneys a bit harder then he should have during training.

After about a year or two the OBs decreased and Valtrex 1 dd 500 sufficed. This dose does not give me problems.

I don't know if taking 250 for a while makes sense. Anybody here who can give an informed advice on that?
