Hi all!

Not having the best results with my current doc. Does anyone have any suggestions or know who the go to for herpes treatment in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area is? I'm just not having much luck with finding someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the virus.  Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome!

What kind of treatment/information are you looking for? We have a lot of great information here and a lot of knowledgeable people (although we are not Drs). And do you mind me asking if you are male or female?

Thanks!

Hi! Female! My story is a bit strange. I'm assuming I'm experiencing my primary outbreak, but had exposure over 10 years ago? I've never really noticed symptoms and my husband has never had any either. We've already discussed infidelity and I'm pretty certain it's something I guess I've been carrying. So I've been experiencing symptoms for just over a month now. I'm still taking Valtrex 1g twice a day. I feel like I will get a little better but then the next day I'm bad again. I don't have any outward sores, but get the constant bruise-like pain and tingling. I don't know that I'm on the right track if 2g/day of valtrex isn't really helping it. Does this sound odd to you? So I am hoping to find a doc who knows the ins and outs of the virus who may be able to help me better.

Okay, so back up just a little. How were you diagnosed?

Also, everyone's body is different. Some people respond really well to antivirals and some not at all. Others find that one type of antiviral works better than another (there are 3 common ones that I know of).

Were you tested via bloodtest? What prompted you to test? Was your husband tested?

So I know this is going to sound crazy, but diagnosis based on history and physical. I said let's try the Valtrex and see if it works. I feel like the symptoms improve, but in no way do I think it's great. It's like they can be an 8 one day, trend down to about a 2, then the next day I'm feeling it come back on again. I am constantly aware that there is something going on down there. I don't know if this is all one episode that is just lasting forever or several overlapping.

I know you're going to tell me first and foremost get a blood test, but at the moment, based on my symptoms, I'm pretty certain I have all symptoms except the rash.

Does this sound like a normal first incident to you? Or worse, like someone who's had the virus dormant in their body for 10+ years?

I will get testing, but based on everything I've read and discussions with my doc, I don't seem like the "typical" case. So would like to just cut to the chase and get to someone who is a hsv pro!

I think anyone will tell you ... that prior to treatment of any kind - you need a diagnosis. Check out anylabtestnow.com and see if there is a location near you. It's only $49 for an HSV type 1 and 2 IgG blood test and you'll have the results in a couple days. As far as "typical"... most people aren't! You will find sooooo many variations of how this virus presents itself! I myself am atypical and had to convince my Dr to test me as he was 100% sure it wasn't HSV!

As far as treatment it really depends on what you are experiencing and then trial and error. Some Drs may have you try different antivirals to see what provides relief (although for some they don't) and they can also prescribe topical cream to help with the pain. Others have had luck seeing alternative Drs - like those practicing Chinese medicine and found them to be helpful. Unfortunately at this time - there is no cure... only trying things to help with symptoms. And unfortunately for some it's only time that helps! Originally it was my OBGYN that worked with me but they don't typically have a lot of experience beyond meds, etc.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I'm just having a hard time dealing and would like someone who is knowledgeable in treatment to talk to. When the symptoms are there I feel pretty down, but when they seem mild and on their way out I feel good like I'm going to be ok. The physical and emotional roller coaster is getting to me and I'm only a month in on this thing.

Good morning. My name is Marlena and I come from Poland. Sorry, my English is average. For two years I have been in a relationship with a man, for a year and a half I have been struggling with intimate problems. On average, my intimate condition is getting worse every month. Then I feel itching, redness, swelling around the entrance to the vagina, small blisters (not always). Most often it is only red and swollen, itches and then disappears. This state lasts 3-4 days. I come from a small town, doctors don't know what it is. They say it's 'skin irritation'. They prescribe moisturizing creams with lactic acid, probiotics. It doesn't help. I did a blood test for HSV on my own, which is very expensive in Poland, but it does not separate HSV1 from HSV2. The doctor, when he shows these results, says that it's not herpes, but irritation. I would like to add that in the past I suffered from herpes on the lips, then it was a 'scab'. There has never been a scab in an intimate area. Sometimes there are blisters that last 1-2 days, but not always. So what do high blood test results mean? I would like to add that in Poland people do not talk about the HSV virus. It's just that sometimes someone has it on their lips and that's it. Results translation: IgM HSV 1/2: questionable IgG HSV 1/2: result above the measuring range https://files.fm/f/4cpu7uee4

This is my first time posting here. Im generally pretty anxious when it comes to anything to do with health conditions etc. For context I have had jock itch and fungal infections previously on my buttcrack. I have had 0 new sexual partners and I am not concerned about my girlfriend cheating at all. 4 days ago my balls began itching and red pretty much all over, as you can see some general flakeyness and what looks to be a lesion I noticed on Monday when I checked them out. My partner and I do get cold sores from time to time so the anxious part of me is concerned this could be herpes, but at the same time could be some sort of fungal infection. My doctor cant see me until tomorrow so I just have to worry until then. There is no pain and nothing on the penis or anywhere else, just general itchiness. Any ideas if this is herpes or not?

Yes, but every married person who I found out about that has this waited 6-8 months into the relationship to disclose it. But maybe you're right. If I had told her 6-7 months in, she'd still have Googled it and flipped out, and maybe it would have been harder then. I don't know. I don't see myself going through this level of pain and rejection so easily next time. I really don't. I'm taking the meds. I use protection. It's been almost a decade since I've had it so I'm not worried about shedding or passing it on so easily. British studies confirm that the first 2 years are the most contagious and we're passed that. I'm just over this. I've never been in so much emotional pain in my life.
