Google acyclovir side effects or Acyclovir Adverse Reactions.   there are plenty of ppl who have reactions to it but just as many who don't.

Personally, acyclovir makes my back hurt (my kidneys).  Mentally, I feel a bit out and urinating is uncomfortable.   After urinating 2-3 times, things are back to normal.   I'd rather feel prodrome then feel those effects.  Everyone is different.

I have tried acyclovir and it makes me very very very sleepy and drowsy. Lately I have just been taking a lysine vitamin every morning (because its natural so no side effects) and it helps reduce my outbreaks.

I want to try Valtrex on my next outbreak to see if I react better to it.

But yeah, if youre thinking about giving acyclovir a try, try it! It may work for you even though it didn't work for me!
