Very Confused with Results

I deleted my other forum posts out of embarrassment. I was not accepting of this diagnosis whatsoever. To make a long story short, I went to the gynecologist on February 28 for an IUD. I decided I didn't want one, but went to the appointment anyway. The nurse practitioner looked down there and noticed a little paper cut or two. I have a connective tissue disorder and my skin everywhere is very fragile and can tear easily. I also wipe myself pretty roughly when I go to the bathroom. She said she was almost positive it wasn't herpes, but took a culture anyway and told me to get blood drawn. Mind you, I had the culture taken at about 4:30 PM and got called with results the next day at 12:00 noon. I came back positive with Genital HSV1. I thought it was suspiciously quick. I asked the nurse practitioner if false positive results ever happen, and she shut be down by just saying "no" with no explanation. I got my blood drawn that day. About five days later, I got a call saying my IgG was negative for HSV1 and HSV2. My result was <0.90 for both. Before my herpes blood test, I had sex with a guy once on November 11, making it 15 weeks + 5 days in advance to testing. The only guy I had sex with since was my boyfriend. I got prescribed Valtrex. The couple cuts I had went away, but I think it was a coincidence. A couple of days after being off the Valtrex, they came back in the exact same couple spots.

I immediately told my boyfriend. I told him he needed to get his IgG tested. He got results a few days later. I assumed I had herpes from him. He called me with his results and to my surprise, he was negative. We were both very happy to hear he was negative.

A couple weeks later, I went to urgent care (this Tuesday) for an unrelated issue and ended up explaining my situation to the super nice physician assistant. She asked me if I wanted her to look down there. I said yes. She said "I see what you're talking about, but it doesn't look like herpes to me. I will culture it for you." She took an IgM blood test too. I also have a few little dark pigmentation spots down there. I had one, but I have quite a few more all of the sudden. She said I almost look like I have lichen sclerosus. I informed her how quickly I got the first culture results back, and she said that is unheard of.

Yesterday, I decided to call urgent care to ask if they got my results. They just got them in. I was so nervous and shaking. The culture was done in three days (much more believable) and was negative. The IgM was negative for HSV1 and HSV2.

What I'm confused about is how I got a false positive initially? I know medical errors happen... I did a lot of research and came across an article where a woman was awarded $2,500,000 for an HIV misdiagnosis...

Any insight would be helpful, and stories appreciated if this has happened to anyone else!

Honestly it sounds like your results got mixed up with someone else's in the paperwork pile at the first Drs. The only test that could of even been close to having turn around that fast is a PCR swab, and those take 3ish days typically. Cultures can take up to 2 WEEKS so something definently is off.

I will say that negative bloods for HSV1 are a bit of a wash as there is a 15% false negative rate for them for the IgG test. Ignore IGM test completely, they are wrong almost all the time and are only effective diagnostic tools for infants.

Lichen sclerosis can cause papercut like wounds, yes. Also patches of discoloration like you are describing.

Yes, but every married person who I found out about that has this waited 6-8 months into the relationship to disclose it. But maybe you're right. If I had told her 6-7 months in, she'd still have Googled it and flipped out, and maybe it would have been harder then. I don't know. I don't see myself going through this level of pain and rejection so easily next time. I really don't. I'm taking the meds. I use protection. It's been almost a decade since I've had it so I'm not worried about shedding or passing it on so easily. British studies confirm that the first 2 years are the most contagious and we're passed that. I'm just over this. I've never been in so much emotional pain in my life.

Is this herpes? I can’t find any pics that match this exactly and my symptoms don’t really match. I don’t have really any of the typical herpes symptoms other than pictured, so I figured it could be friction as I have recently been having a lot of sex with a new partner. Way more than normal. Started having unprotected sex about 3 - 4 weeks ago. These symptoms only started about 3-4 days ago. Felt burning in some areas and only some very few tiny red areas/spots appeared. Almost shiny in appearance. Seems to settle very quickly. They were only present for a day or so. Also had some very mild irritation after I pee but not during. This spot has 2 small red lumps that are now dry around the outside. It’s like it’s been rubbed off and the skin is dry and shiny underneath. It doesn’t seem to be lesion. There was no puss or any leakage, nor was the skin ever red under them. They also got better within a day or so. I still have red spots around but they are very small and not bunched together and some general discomfort but I feel it’s because I’ve touched it so much! Stressing a bit!  my research tells me friction burn/blister , Fungal ,herpes a bit of it all! I have no idea! Please help! Thanks in advance.

I’m going to force him to get tested ! Thanks for your help !

@EssenceL25 there really isn't a question mark around the source, it's your latest partner. The median time from infection to an outbreak of lesions upon initial infection is 4 days.  The only thing that isn't certain is the type I suggest.
