Menopause and Outbreaks

Hi there,

I was diagnosed 7 years ago with genital HSV 1. After the initial OB, I had no symptoms or apparent OBs. I am 39 and have had outbreaks every two weeks for the last 6 months, and I assume I am starting to enter into peri menopause. Has anyone else noticed an increase in OB as their hormones start to change?

Hi,

Yes it seems that when you hit your 40s, which you haven't but getting close, your immune system is not as efficient so people seem to have more issues.  Also, I do think hormones fluctuating causes problems too.  I personally have issues around my period with herpes....no classic breakouts, mainly redness, pain and sometimes fissures. If you haven't heard of Dr. Halford, he's studied herpes for the last 20 years and has formulated a vaccine that is still being tested.  But he has a lot of good information on the company's website here https://rationalvaccines.com/   He has "accurate info"  area for doctor and patient education and he states that there are triggers that dampen the immune system that control the virus. Examples include alcohol consumption, anemia, systemic fever, or the progesterone spike that precedes menstruation. Additionally, many foods trigger herpes outbreaks in sufferers such as peanuts, chocolate, and coffee.

Hope that helps.  Hopefully more people will chime in.

I am 49 and in the last 16 months or so, I have had an OB almost every two months. Have been Peri menopausal since I was 36 and had a hysterectomy in 2012. I didn't have an OB for almost 10 years, that was nice. Before that 10 years, I had them few and far between and they never lasted long. The OB's have moved to the anal area and since then I am having them regularly. At first I thought it was hemmorhoids because I had never had an anal OB, but after two weeks I went to the Dr. Now I am having far to many and nothing seems to work. Yes, I am most likely going through menopause, but due to the surgery I won't ever know for sure. Help!

Nice to know there are others near my age with HSV and an outlet here in this site.

Hi! I   Have the jackpot of both GHSV 1 and 2. My outbreaks are more and more, every day I have symptoms. This past week has been a nightmare. I bought an ice pack. It is about 12 inches long and 4 inches wide, flexible.  I think I got it at CVS or Walgreens. I wrap it in a towel and place it down there like a pad and have almost immediate yet temporary relief. Hope this helps you too.
