How Did This Happen

So I had my first OB last week and my doctor told me I had herpes, but my blood test came up negative for either strain. The doctor said this proved I had contracted it somewhat recently, and after reading about the incubation period between contracting HSV and having your first OB, I've decided it could only be one person. I contacted him today thinking he had just been too embarrassed to tell me and was having symptoms himself, but he was in complete shock and said he wasn't having any symptoms (except maybe a cold sore- but it healed rather quickly). I also slept with someone after the first guy and he had a terrible outbreak within a week. The first guy went in for a blood test today and we're waiting on the results, but how can it be explained that he is showing no signs of an outbreak and this other guy and I've been having the worst week of my life? Is it possible he is just a transmitter, or transmitted it within a day without contracting it himself? (he had hooked up with someone else the night before).

Sounds like a tough situation - I hope you are relieved of your pain soon!

Different people respond to the virus differently. There is no way to base who gave it to who based off the severity of their symptoms. Unfortunately, some people have terrible symptoms, some had none at all. You are doing all you can do by getting tested, informing partners, and trying to nurse yourself back to health. I wouldn't get stuck on the details.
