Pain in the knees and legs

No it is not normal and would have nothing to do with herpes.

Have you seen a doctor and had a focus on back and nerve issues?

I struggle with prodrome big time because for my initial outbreak, I was feverish, my hips hurt, joints and legs hurt. Since diagnosis have had 4 minor outbreaks. I'm having one right now I think, and didn't feel it coming. Although I will say now that I think about it, last week my knees were sore, hips tight, and would occasionally get a random pain shooting down my buttocks. I do think prodrome can cause physical stress when trying to combat the virus when it becomes active.

Mine has been really weird - I have not had any outbreaks that I know of. I was just getting weird discharge and around the initial I had a slight fever, sore hips etc. Since then I've experienced the weird discharge and have had sore muscles in both legs but mostly my right and sore muscle in my left butt cheek and sometimes a burning sensation there as well. It's happening on and off and I haven't really had any relief from that. I just started valtrex 4 days ago - so I'm hoping that helps.

If this all started when you contracted HSV then I don't know why they wouldn't be related, but everyone's situation is different.   The pain you're experiencing in the thighs/legs and knees doesn't have to be HSV related.   ...But if you have a physical/health situation has you 'vulnerable' or 'sensitive' then HSV can be a stressor to exacerbate (or bring out) certain symptoms.

Is the pain better or worse throughout the day?  In the morning or end of day, after a nap, after an activity...?  Does it have a pattern over the past 6 month?

The easy (but probably not the most productive) solution would be to goto an MD and get checked out.  The better (but not understood why it's the better) solution is to check out a Chinese medicine practitioner that has an herbal medicine practice.  If you goto the MD and he gives you Rx for Valtrex and, if the symptoms are related to HSV, they'll diminish or go away, or they'll diminish/go away plus have some side-effects.  Valtrex doesn't help with healing or addressing other issues you may have aside from disabling HSV.   If you goto an experienced TCM practitioner, get a custom formula for your situation then your immune system in strengthened, inflammation is being quelled, tissue regeneration is enhanced and the pain gone. But just like MDs, not every TCM practitioner is a God-tier practitioner so it's up to the patient to seek one out that works.  It is unfortunate that people have experiences and that first impression taints their perception of the entire profession.

I've had profound experience with TCM costing me $25 at a student clinic that an MD wanted to charge $2100 to treat the same problem.  I've seen people spend $2000++ on MD and PT for pain that did nothing to spend $100-200 (total) on an acupuncturist and have the pain and overall issues gone by the 3rd visit.

I don't know if you're near Austin, but there's student clinics that you could check out.  You can help students learn while under the supervision of veteran practitioners/supervisors.  If you don't want acupuncture then say you just want herbs.

Lastly, as much as practitioner love raw herbs, see if you can find someone who has a practice with herbs in granule form for convenience of use.

Hope you find some relief.

Hi I wanted to know is pain in the thighs and knees normal consecutively for 6 months.

If I'm having an oral OB then I experience general aches and malaise. It even hurts to climb stairs.

An oral ob would not be linked to pain in your muscles. Genital hsv would be more related because the virus is in the spine.  Behind the thigh is common area.  Maybe you are getting the flu and getting an ob

If the pain is a dull ache in the inner side of your knees you might have a weak glute medias, which is responsible for controlling your legs. If it's nerve and there's like a burning/numbish pain then you might have a lower back problem. It could just be from sitting more often.

It's more than likely a muscle weakness though. When a lot people get herpes they get weaken for a bit due to how physically/emotionally sick they feel. Most people don't eat enough and might lose a bit of muscle.

Currently I have an oral OB and boom fever, malaise and aches. No genital OB. I know my body.

Or maybe she has a busy life, a kid(s), bunch of responsibilities; stress => decreases immune system -> OB.   ...Maybe menstrual cycle related?

I get really bad nerve pains in my knees when I'm not having an outbreak or sometimes when I do have an ob. and it is herpes related bc it didn't happen until I got this.

I say yes. Before my OB got bad, I was achy all over. My back hurt.. the joints in my feet and hands were hurting. I felt like I was pregnant or getting the flu. Everybody's body reacts different. Try drinking more water but it doesn't hurt to go have a physical to make sure it's nothing else.

Hi "Jeremy"..... I agree, the topic of your HSV status does not need to be something you disclose too soon in a developing relationship..... get to know each other first....see how it's going and as it progresses, then the HSV issue will naturally need to be revealed.... it's my personal opinion though that before there is any sexual encounter you ought to disclose your HSV status.... I know some will disagree with me on this but, I think it is morally wrong not to disclose first.  This can be a make/break situation for most people but, again, I feel it is simply wrong not to give the other person the whole story since your decision not to disclose could put their health at risk.... that is simply not an option in my opinion.  Looking back to my "pre-HSV" life I most certainly would want my partner to disclose their HSV+ status before intimacy so that I could make my decision as to whether I want to take that risk or not....

Thanks, CHT. I appreciate the feedback. The whole trauma of going through this has led me to figure out a lot about myself and my attachment wounds, so I'm taking courses to come out of this better. This girl really was my dream woman in so many ways, it's been the hardest heartbreak to deal with ever. I'm truly in a lot of pain, but using the pain as fuel to launch that new business and work with coaches. I also opened up to my family about HSV, so my parents and sister know now, and they were very loving and accepting of it. Since opening up about it, I feel way better around this thing. After opening up, I also found out that some mutual friends in our family have discordant couples who are married with children, so HSV hasn't stopped them from living a loving life. The thing is... all of these couples I mention did not disclose until 6-8 months into the relationship. So now I'm thinking it might be better not to disclose until I know things are very serious. I'll of course stay on the medication and use protection, but maybe this is a better route than disclosing upfront and scaring women off.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.
