Odd Case

Hey y'all.

I Just tested positive for HSV-1 after having blisters on my ass crack/anus area. Prior to the blisters I had had a chemical burn that resulted from leaving Nair on too long (I'm 1/2 Italian and it gets really bad down there) I went to the hospital here in Dallas and they told me just to wash it with soap and water and use a sitz bath. A week later I noticed blisters and here we are today. I never had anal sex But I did have oral sex that went a little low on the scrotum side of things. I have some questions I am going to ask in number format. I appreciate any an all help getting all of my answers from people with first hand experience.

Questions:

1.   Out of HSV-1 and HSV-2, is it true that HSV-1 is the better of the two in my situation?

2. Could I have had HSV-1 from a kid and stress just happens to cause it to awaken on my anus area?

3. Is it possible that the chemical burns contributed as to why it appeared there and not on my lips.

4. Will this ever spread to my lips or my penis without contact?

5. My doctor prescribed Famciclovir 250mg 3x a day for 10 days. I thought when you got herpes you had to take valtrex etc for life.

6.    Are flare ups/ outbreaks less likely with hsv-1?

7.  Will flare ups mostly be confined to my anus.

8. Can my unaffected penis or unaffected lips spread this by sex/kissing.

9. Is it possible after this I'll never have a flare up again or am I fucked for life.

10. Do you think there will be a cure soon? I'm 25 now.

11. Is it possible that the blisters/sores around my ass weren't genital herpes and I just tested positive because it was a open wound/irritated area and it picked up the super dormant cold sore I may have had as a kid?

God Bless

Whoa well ahead of ourselves just for the moment.

what test did you have that revealed you were HSV-1, what were the exact results?

They didn't even think it was herpes but the doctor swabbed it, put it in a container and then took it to the lab. They thought it was just irritation and they said to put hydrocortisone on it. I only suggested they test for it because my lymph nodes were swollen. Sure enough results came back and I learned it was positive when the pharmacy called and said my prescription was ready. Called up the doctors and the nurse said it was HSV-1

I have some questions I am going to ask in number format. I appreciate any an all help getting all of my answers from people with first hand experience.

Questions:

1.   Out of HSV-1 and HSV-2, is it true that HSV-1 is the better of the two in my situation?

Generally speaking HSV-1 is considered the "better one". The preferred home of HSV-1 is oral so since it's not as happy down below it is often less likely to continue to be symptomatic (there are always exceptions). Also, so many have oral HSV-1 and therefore already have it which broadens your dating pool without risk - so to speak.

2. Could I have had HSV-1 from a kid and stress just happens to cause it to awaken on my anus area?

The oral location would not include your genital area. The place where oral and genital HSV live is completely separate. Once you have an established infection in one of those locations it's almost impossible to acquire it in the other

3. Is it possible that the chemical burns contributed as to why it appeared there and not on my lips.

So hard to know exactly when this occurred but if you received oral sex from someone with HSV-1 and had any openings due to the burns then it gave the virus more opportunity to "get in"

4. Will this ever spread to my lips or my penis without contact?

It takes up dormancy in your nerves near your tailbone and can spread to anywhere in your "boxer brief" area. That could include your penis. Some people only have recurrences in the same location while others find it changes over time. I've only ever had an OB on my "backside" and it's been almost 18 years. It will not show up on your lips from this infection or spread there.

5. My doctor prescribed Famciclovir 250mg 3x a day for 10 days. I thought when you got herpes you had to take valtrex etc for life.

Any medications are completely optional and only 2 reasons to take them - to control symptoms or to help protect against a negative partner. I believe there are 3 common antivirals with Valtrex having the best name recognition - and yours is one of them.

6.    Are flare ups/ outbreaks less likely with hsv-1?

For most people, yes. Many have just the initial OB and then nothing. But this is not the case for everyone.

7.  Will flare ups mostly be confined to my anus.

No way to know for sure.

8. Can my unaffected penis or unaffected lips spread this by sex/kissing.

From your information you have genital HSV-1 so nothing can spread to anyone from your lips. There is risk with shedding possibly from anywhere in your boxer brief area.

9. Is it possible after this I'll never have a flare up again or am I fucked for life.

Either way you are not fucked for life.... but it is possible that you will never have another OB

10. Do you think there will be a cure soon? I'm 25 now.

Depends on what you mean by cure. There are a lot of promising things in the works. I believe better treatment options for those in pain is coming very soon and hope to see a preventative vaccine as well. A full cure is hard to say.

11. Is it possible that the blisters/sores around my ass weren't genital herpes and I just tested positive because it was a open wound/irritated area and it picked up the super dormant cold sore I may have had as a kid?

If the swabbed that area then that's where the infection is. I don't think this is a possibility.

God Bless

I am not any sort of Dr (or expert really!) but I gave your questions a shot above in italics. Hope that helps a little. I try not to talk in absolutes as there are SO many variables we can't possibly know or understand but I think the gist is there.

Good morning. My name is Marlena and I come from Poland. Sorry, my English is average. For two years I have been in a relationship with a man, for a year and a half I have been struggling with intimate problems. On average, my intimate condition is getting worse every month. Then I feel itching, redness, swelling around the entrance to the vagina, small blisters (not always). Most often it is only red and swollen, itches and then disappears. This state lasts 3-4 days. I come from a small town, doctors don't know what it is. They say it's 'skin irritation'. They prescribe moisturizing creams with lactic acid, probiotics. It doesn't help. I did a blood test for HSV on my own, which is very expensive in Poland, but it does not separate HSV1 from HSV2. The doctor, when he shows these results, says that it's not herpes, but irritation. I would like to add that in the past I suffered from herpes on the lips, then it was a 'scab'. There has never been a scab in an intimate area. Sometimes there are blisters that last 1-2 days, but not always. So what do high blood test results mean? I would like to add that in Poland people do not talk about the HSV virus. It's just that sometimes someone has it on their lips and that's it. Results translation: IgM HSV 1/2: questionable IgG HSV 1/2: result above the measuring range https://files.fm/f/4cpu7uee4

This is my first time posting here. Im generally pretty anxious when it comes to anything to do with health conditions etc. For context I have had jock itch and fungal infections previously on my buttcrack. I have had 0 new sexual partners and I am not concerned about my girlfriend cheating at all. 4 days ago my balls began itching and red pretty much all over, as you can see some general flakeyness and what looks to be a lesion I noticed on Monday when I checked them out. My partner and I do get cold sores from time to time so the anxious part of me is concerned this could be herpes, but at the same time could be some sort of fungal infection. My doctor cant see me until tomorrow so I just have to worry until then. There is no pain and nothing on the penis or anywhere else, just general itchiness. Any ideas if this is herpes or not?

Yes, but every married person who I found out about that has this waited 6-8 months into the relationship to disclose it. But maybe you're right. If I had told her 6-7 months in, she'd still have Googled it and flipped out, and maybe it would have been harder then. I don't know. I don't see myself going through this level of pain and rejection so easily next time. I really don't. I'm taking the meds. I use protection. It's been almost a decade since I've had it so I'm not worried about shedding or passing it on so easily. British studies confirm that the first 2 years are the most contagious and we're passed that. I'm just over this. I've never been in so much emotional pain in my life.
