Viral shedding while taking Valtrex as suppressant

Recommended Posts

I take 1 gram of Valtrex on a daily basis for suppressant purposes. I was diagnosed with HSV-1 genital herpes March of last year. I started taking the medicine as a suppressant in January of this year and have noticed my first outbreak (they are cracks in the folds and I have to assume it's an outbreak). I know you can still have outbreaks while taking the suppressant and that it reduces the chances of shedding. I was having oral sex with my partner and a couple of hours later noticed the cracks because of the pain. There was no pain during sex. My question is since I take the medicine as a daily suppressant and the sores happened so close to sexual contact, are my chances of shedding still less since I'm on the daily meds even with an outbreak or is it the same regardless because it is an outbreak? I'm just curious to know if the chances of spreading are less with this case since I take Valtrex on a daily basis.

Technically yes they are. Bare in mind though that genital HSV-1 only sheds a few days a year as it is - 10-15. It is pretty questionable whether cutting this to say about 7 is actually worth the cost of a daily tablet.

If your partner already has oral HSV-1 then there is negligible if any benefit in taking antivirals.

Then there’s the psychological toll. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Preventionstates that 776,000 Americans are newly infected with genital herpes each year. Even when symptoms are nonexistent, mild or suppressed by medication, infected people can still spread the disease to their sexual partners, making a genital herpes diagnosis a source of embarrassment, shame or stress that can interfere with relationships

Looking for a meaningful number---Valtrex is known to reduce genital HSV2, asymptomatic shedding to what % of the time?  Thnx.

So I made it to month four without a visible sign of an outbreak. I had a really bad outbreak in the ending of April and was diagnosed with GHSV1. My initial outbreak took about a month to heal and left scars (a lighter pigmentation from my overall complexion on my genitals). Sadly I have been ridiculously paranoid to the point I have taken two 7 day treatments of Valtrex. More than likely it was probably just yeast infections (I get them way more than I should, even before getting hsv). I also take lysine twice a day and three times a day when I feel like an outbreak is coming on. I’ve been applying tea tree to my genitals everyday since getting diagnosed to dry out any potential outbreaks that are present that I possibly mistake for an ingrown hair. When does the worrying stop? How often have anyone on this forum with GHSV1 get outbreaks? What’s are some good tips and tricks?

Ive have GHSV1 for two years and have not experienced an OB since my first initial one.. except for now i think. I was very stressed and worrisome, which caused me to get itchy down there, and now everytime i wipe i feel like there are blisters, but when i look there are none! im so confused and not sure if its just my mind trying to trick me, but i can sometimes feel them when i am sitting down, it feels like pins and needles.. has anyone else experienced this?? i dont know what to do! im trying to not think about it and 'think' my way out of this outbreak

Recently had my first big outbreak (I had a scare of what I thought could have been one last month but even though I got swabbed asap tested it came back negative). After about a week into the outbreak on my genitals I then had an oral outbreak (never had a cold sore before at least to my awareness). While I am on antivirals (taken the day the cold sore showed and the genitals have started clearing this oral one just seems to be getting worse. The nurse said it was likely HSV-2 but I am still waiting for my results. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to cope with this oral outbreak? I am currently staying at my boyfriends' house and am worried it will travel from inner lip/mouth to be more visible, the idea of his parents seeing it fills me with dread.
Also, any good websites/blogs/youtubers to follow to give me a little more hope to this all.

      Hi
I'm losing more hair than usual and not on any suppressive meds.
Was wondering if anyone else experienced this hsv2 diagnosis or even hsv1 diagnoses
If so how did you solve the problem?
      Thank you.

@DJwah curious about your results. anything you can share?

Thanks. Did you experience general discomfort when urinating for quite a while after the excruciating part was done, or was it instantly over after the week with antivirals?

Thanks for the response.  I have been tested for HSV over and over for 5 months (IgM 1 time and IgG over 5 times) and been negative on everything, including a swab of a red rash and of an irritated urethral opening.  My very first symptom of anything was VERY painful urination that lasted about a day or two if I recall, followed a week or so later by a sore throat, chills, night sweats, and fatigue.  Things settled for maybe a few days, then came an extremely itchy anus/rectum with redness for weeks, itchy groin with no redness at all, then eventual red, itchy rash in groin and increase in redness on penile skin with mild itching. Never had a lesion or blister anywhere from what I've seen. Nothing seems to coincide with typical herpes, but herpes isn't always typical from what I've learned. Creams of all kinds from doctors are not helping at all.  I seem to have a new bug no one has ever come across (doubtful), or an atypical case of herpes or something similar.

No, Sebi was a fraud. This article is an interesting summary. https://www.thebody.com/article/dr-sebi-did-not-cure-hiv-nipsey-hussle-documentary If you’re basing the possibility of ‘cures’ on Sebi, I’ve got a car for sale that’s had one careful lady driver! Its simply fact that of the 40 billion people who have ever had HSV 1/2, not one eradicated it from their body.

I'm amazed people do not think outside the box and to go to great efforts to reply to me saying "it's not curable" I simply cannot understand. If you truly believe Western Medicine and they say it's not curable then whatever they claim in the future you will live your life with their scientific proof. I simply have posted here to hear from like minded people who are juicing and doing colonics to see what their results are. People who have had cancer have cured it with a alternative lifestyle becoming vegan etc so if cancer is cureable who can't you open your mind and just think could hsv be curable? did you know Dr Sebi was taken to court because he claimed he cured someone with Aids? He turned up with 25 people who he cured of all illnesses and was let off. So please spare me your thought's of "It's not curable" as I will never belive that. Unless you have some experiences with juicing and colonics you wish to share then do not comment on this thread. Will no longer reply to closed minded sad people like yourselves.
