chronic constipation

Recommended Posts

I have had first Outbreak for 10 days.  My bowels have totally stopped working - it doesn't matter how much fibre, veg smoothies, laxatives or anything that I use - the muscles that make faeces come out - just don't work.   does any one have any advice on what to do or if this clears up? nb the stools are soft so that side is not a a problem. thanks

Same problem! And if you Google it, many people experience the same. It's my problem number 1 with ghsv. I lost few kilos because of that and it effects the immune system badly.. Sometimes it effects my stomach and I get diarrhea instead. My advice is eat nutrition food with less fiber because this way you can have enough calories and nutrients but less stuff for filling your bowels. I eat full fat yogurt, drink kefir, eat bananas, cooked potatoes with butter, fish or chicken meat. I always had high fiber diet, but in this case it would hurt more than help. For constipation I use stool softeners and smooth move tea. I was also recommended triphala medicine to detox in one inet discussion. I got that advice from a man who suffer with GI issues due to ghsv for more than year. Triphala was recommended by GI specialist he visited. Also, that GI specialist admits the issues are due to hsv playing with nerves. I hope it's reversible. Good luck. I am much better now than in the beginning (I have ghsv for 5months), but still kind of celebrating when I go to washroom :-) sorry, but you know what I mean....

could try an aloe vera drink.    Blend some aloe gel with a banana (in water).   If ya needed some type of measurement then 2 heaping TBS of Aloe gel.   ...Aloe has a bunch of beneficial properties but can leech out potassium, which is why the banana is important (as well as taste).  To name some of them:
-Aloe is a restorative so it heals any damaged tissue.
-Aloe is anti-inflammatory
-Anti-viral
-a laxative, depending on how much is taken.

But yeah, sacral nerves relate/innervate to/with the Large Intestine and genitalia.

You can pick up some an aloe vera plant from any plant nursery.

Light exercise like walking, lots of water, and metamucil should help. (Not all fiber is effective)

I have noticed that I now have chronic constipation after my primary outbreak. Scientists have found a link to it. Has anyone else had this issue? Treatments?

Hey peeps with HSV-2, have noticed since getting it that your bowel movements have changed?
I had regular movements every day with 1 or 2 pieces but since this infection I now have constipation and only little niblets that come out.
I also notice that I seem to have difficultly holding in gas, it just passes and there’s nothing I can do about it. Never had that issue before this.
These are small issues compared to the rest of course. My entire body has changed from this.
I have never had a suicidal thought in my life but this has put me over the edge and thinking about it every day.

Hey all! I’m new and my diagnosis is pending. I’ve done so much research that I have a new understanding and respect for people living with herpes. That being said it wasn’t like that alway, I had been a part of a stigma we all know very well up until my latest annual pap. So I went in and had my pap and just a routing std check. Two days later and my OB calls and says everything’s good on the pap and the bloood work came back but there’s an acute result for herpes. Although he states he doesn’t know which kind or where and to come back in 6 weeks. So me being the 22 yo uneducated student, freaks out. I am asymptomatic and at the time he advises to check around my mouth and lips for any cold sores. I had a minor canker sore like lesion on my gum above my tooth and that was it super minor discomfort. So I went into a care now and the doctor did a pcr swab of the cut and another igm and an igg. So it’s about 5 days waiting period and during that time I get sick, similar to pharyngitis ( it was so bad I went back, the doctor gave me  Valacyclovir in case it was an outbreak). So now I really am thinking ok this is most like HSV-1 being it’s possible but less likely to be HSV -2 And I have zero symptoms on my genitals unless it’s dormant. And then plot twist, I get all results back, second igm, viral swab, and igg and all negative! What is going on?

Hey @sheikha and welcome to the website. Different tests around the world have different numbers as to what means positive.  Do you have details of what test was performed? Does the paperwork indicate what number means positive? For some tests it’s 1.1, others 11 and some more than 20!

What symptoms brought you to test in the first place
    • Mikeike3
Over 3.3 is a strong positive. You could repeat that test. I'd assume I had it.

Lysine seemed to dry the blisters during outbreaks.  They would take about the same time to heal but there would be no/less fluid while using lysine.  At first it seemed like it was reducing the amount of outbreaks, but after a couple months they were coming just as often as before - if not more often.
