IS THIS AN OB?! (Picture)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've recently been diagnosed with HSV 2. I never had an OB before so I don't know what to expect. This morning I woke up with a sore like this (picture attached). Is this a canker sore or cold sore. Its a tiny white sore. It's not on my lip but inside of it. It hurts like a canker sore but I never got one so close to my lip. I've been so paranoid lately and it's been stressing me out. I freak out over every little bump in my mouth. I'm scared to touch my mouth and lips because I'm scared of spreading it.

I just updated a clearer picture of the sores. I notice another tiny white bump next to it. I'm starting to think it is an OB

I do not have HSV 1.

Can't tell from that. Not likely at all to be a HSV-2 lesion. Do you have HSV-1?

Another tiny white bump popped up next to it. No I don't have HSV-1 when I got tested.

I think a few more details may help.

I see you are in the US hence it is very likely your test was Herpeselect. Can you confirm the number and that >1.1 was positive?

Did this make sense? Have you experienced an outbreak or maybe something unpleasant that you were not sure about?

Do either of your parents have oral cold sores?

How old are you (or an age bracket)?

I take it you have been sexually active with a handful of partners?

Hello!

Yes i am from the US. My number was 8.81 which is pretty high and very unlikely to be a false positive. No i never experienced an outbreak before so I'm not sure what to expect. Now every little bump in mouth has me questioning is it oral herpes. I'm too scared to even touch down there even if there is no OB. Nope, none of my parents have oral cold sores. I'm 23. No I'm not sexually active, I'm a virgin. I had a oral sex a number of 4 times so I'm scared that I may have oral HSV 2.

I would be retested, love. Oral hsv2 is extremely rare and you're a virgin! It's not common that doctors offices mix up results but I think yours may be one of those rare cases.

I think you would have to go and get a copy of your test results does it definitely say hsv2 because normally you would not have hsv2 if you are a virgin.  U obviously get hsv1 on your genitals through oral sex.

I wanted to get retested but the doctor said that its too early to get retested and that theres no point. Yeah its hard to find any information on oral hsv 2 :(

Yeah i have a copy of my test and it says hsv 2 positive. I am a virgin but a guy who told me he was "clean" rubbed his genitals against mine bare. The doctors said that's sufficient enough to get hsv 2.

A 1 in tens of thousands shot. If you were infected, then you'd have had an outbreak at that time.

When you say that you have engaged in oral sex, do you mean someone going down on you OR you using your mouth on genitals OR both?

Its both but usually my mouth on geinitals.

You have a printout of your results!

What exactly does it say?? It might say things like IgM 6.7 H reference range > 1.1 etc.

Yes i have a printout of my results. Its says hsv 2 herpeselect igg  8.81.

The doctor said its an old infection and theres no chance of it being a false positive.

That is correct, only a lab mix up could be an issue. For that reason and given your circumstances a retest is recommended.

Yeah I really wish it was a lab mix up but I highly doubt it. Yeah I'm going to get retested at a different doc since my current doc is unwilling to do a retest.

How did the doctor determine it's an old infection? Does the higher number correlate to how long you've had the infection? I ask particularly because the person who claims I infected him was tested one week after we had sex and his IGG was over 13. I haven't been able to find anything online to indicate what these numbers mean.

Hi @Cchris

@WilsoInAus is much better than me at interpreting these test results (I am not a doctor or a scientist), but from my understanding an IGG result of 13 is very high and almost certainly means that it is an old infection.

The IGG reading relates to the level of specific antibodies your immune system has produced to fight the HSV infection (not the HSV infection itself). In general, the higher the IGG reading, the older your HSV infection (i.e. your immune system has been producing antibodies over time, which register as a higher IGG result). It can take up to 6 months post HSV infection for your body to even register a detectable increase in IGG levels. This is why (for most people) OBs and symptoms are worse in the beginning and generally decrease in severity over time, because with more antibodies at its disposal your immune system is better equipped to fight the virus.

You can never be 100% certain (and ultimately, does it really matter?) but it sounds like he might be the one that gave it to you.

Thank you @HarryAUS for the insight! This is what I needed to know! Clearly he had it already. Aside from showing him your response, is there anywhere I can get this information to show him?

No problem @Cchris. Please don't just take my word for it, I would reconfirm all of this with a medical professional before you start accusing anybody of anything! Perhaps you could both go to the doctor together to discuss?

One of the nice things about this board is questions you have asked always come up again and you get more info. When I asked Planned Parenthood about a new or old infection they told me there is know way of knowing and my doctor said the same thing which is one or the reason he did not want me to get tested if I was positive. Is there a difference how the results are studied in other countries since many on here seem very sure about time frames ?[I am in the USA at 11.40 value.

      hello,
i was here in june with what I thought was maybe an oral ob.  At that point it had been post exposure by 4 months and i ended up testing neg 1&2 igg.  i just tested again and was neg for both, no new contact.
Monday night my nose all of a sudden became EXTREMELY itchy in just one nostril.  the next morning and day all of these white bumps popped up all over it.  I put abreva all in my nose.  this morning i woke up and it was irritated but all the white bumps were gone.  I calmed down but then i just looked and it looks like there's little erosions inside my nose now.  The dr refuses to swab.  Does this look like herpes?  I'm attaching pics of my nose with the blisters and with the erosions, I circled the erosions.  Also including a pic of my lip from june for reference.

Sorry for the image quality of my nose, one is scarily detailed and the one of the bumps is very blurry.  hard to get a good nostril shot as it turns out
maybe i have a false neg hsv1 test result?
Feeling so defeated it is frustrating to not know what is going on and i feel humiliated by the drs who think i am being crazy for suggesting herpes.

      Hello,
I was diagnosed with hsv1&2 earlier this year. I was prescribed 1g of valtrex (valacyclovir) a day for suppressive therapy.  Valtrex helps greatly with my symtoms, but I recently had to leave my job for health reasons and will no longer have health insurance to get prescribed valtrex.
Does anyone know where I can purchase valtrex (valacyclovir) online without a prescription?

      Hello,
Looking for a little advice, thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any. Sorry long post but it's an unusual case.....
Although a new member here I am, unfortunately, a veteran HSV2 sufferer, contracted over 30 years ago. Male, 55yo, hetero, married.
It has always been an irritant, but liveable, or so I thought, as although outbreaks are frequent the lesions are rarely anywhere that cause a big problem.
The virus entered via the genitals, as for most, but after the primary outbreak the lesions are mostly at the base of the spine or behind my ear, occasionally on the chin but almost never on the classic sites of lips or genitals. So it hasn't been a big headache for my sex life over the years, which is a big plus, and I've never passed it to anyone despite having quite a few partners, for which I am very grateful.
However, for the last 2-3 years I've been suffering slowly increasing neurological symptoms, starting with deafness and Menieres-type symptoms in the right ear, and recently pyloric sphincter reflux issues,  scary moments when I almost-vomit while falling asleep, and increasingly poor digestion. My intellect and concentration is not what it was, either. Frequent night sweats and low fevers.
After tests for MS and all sorts of other things and noticing that my HSV2 antibodies level is off the scale (I stupidly hadn't informed him about HSV2 as I thought it irrelevant) on an almost permanent basis, my doctor thinks the immune system is causing neurological damage due to being activated permanently against the HSV2 (uselessly I might add) - so similar to MS in a way. He says it's rare, but it happens.
Soon I will have the first appointment with the neurologist to discuss this, but at the moment Covid19 is making getting an appointment difficult.
Obviously I need to change my life to live it in a way that will calm the HSV2, as it's not going anywhere.  Reduced sugar, reduced alcohol, reduced high-arginine foods (I love Brazil nuts 😞 ) seems the way to go. Fasting works quite well but difficult when at home (I work away sometimes but not atm due to Covid)

      Right - that advice....
I want to start with some dietary supplements to help. Lysine about 3g and Zinc 25mg looks a good place to start. Any other "obvious" ones?  What about the dietary change, I like cream as well, does that have to go too? 😞
Any other obvious things I should be considering?

So this is going to be a long one but please stick it out. I’ll be extremely grateful.
So after going to my doctors for a general check up due to me having Molluscum (had during childhood, but reappeared when I was 19) he mentioned having a routine STD check.
I thought nothing of it and accepted. Everything came back negative, syphillis, chlamydia, ghonnerea and HIV.
What I didn’t realise is that herpes wasn’t a routine test and I started looking online about what herpes involved. I was scared and uncertain about my status now beings as the more I read. The more symptoms I believe I’ve had.
starting in 2018 I had developed iritis which apparently can be a result of H. This however was during a stressful period of my life.
Since my first sexual partner my posterior fourchette has always been weak and I have little tears (not serious) ever since. They heal within a day.
However. Whilst itchiness, blisters, soreness is the typical symptoms for when people have it (and I have never had) I have noticed that I have had a very very thin, not deep, none sore (unless touched) cut on my inner labia a few weeks ago.
Then three days ago I had a tiny tiny cut which resembled more of very thin tear I guess it closer to a definition, since the one on my labia was more of a cut ( but I would also say like a scratch) on the upper part of my genitals just where the pubic area ended. It was quite sore when touched but didn’t bother me otherwise. I have had this cut before however typically when my pubic hair is growing back. In around about the same area which goes away within 2-3 days maximum.
Does this seem like genital herpes?
further more, I now have concerns about my mouth too. This is the first time this has ever happened to me. And had occurred two days after I started panicking about this, so I would say I was extremely stressed.
My tongue turned Pale and patchy with red indents on my tongue. Ulcers (eventhough they didn’t hurt) appeared on the back of the sides of my tongue. The sores then travelled all along the sides of my tongue to the tip of my tongue. (A few yellow patches still being on the back of either side of my tongue) Being in one place, then moving to another. I must say that I had smaller sores and then I had food poisoning which resulted in vomiting which then made the sores triple in amount. Also there are light yellow patches/dots on the back of my throat.
I have been using salt water rinses and bonjella on the sores. It’s important to note that the sores don’t hurt or irritate me UNLESS I use the bonjela which causes them to burn a little.
I have never had anything like this in my mouth before and this has lasted two weeks,  And I guess I’m just extremely upset because I’ve only had two sexual partners. And have been with my current partner for two years. So for all of this to suddenly occur has created so much stress for me. I’ve already told him that there is a possibility since I wanted to be open from the very beginning, but since the COVID scares, anywhere I could get the cuts on my genital swabbed is closed and it’s already gone now. So I’m hoping I could eat some advice here ..
when seeing my GP about my mouth she said it didnt look like herpes and was quite certain. She said it just looked like ulcers and said it could be down to the immense stress I’ve put myself under due to panicking.
      So... Is this thrush/stress/herpes???
Here are the links to the Reddit page I made showing the problems with my mouth as I unfortunately have no pictures of my genital cut.

we have both been experiencing cold like symptoms , chills ( no fever) , cough , congestion , body just feels weak . Is this a ob sign ? no new sores have surfaced , except for some vaginal itchiness for me . ( may be a yeast infection from something i used to ease symptoms during previous ob)
