even with a condom?

I might sound stupid but can someone explain how you can still infect even when a condom is used.I keep running it through my head but if the penis is covered that should protect the man and the girl shouldn't it, so what am i missing?

While you may usually experience your ob's in the same area, you can't always count on it showing up in the same spot. Genital H ob's and shedding can occur anywhere in the 'boxer' area.

If you're a male, yes, your ob's may generally present on your penis, but shedding can occur elsewhere, and ob's may present elsewhere. If you're a female, ob's don't always present inside the vagina. Often, they occur on the labia or somewhere that will still contact the man's skin, regardless of whether he's wearing a condom or not. Therefore, while condoms may offer a limited protection, you can't depend on them to prevent passing the virus on to your partner.

And don't worry about sounding stupid. The only 'stupid' questions are the ones you don't ask. ;)

skin to skin contact

alright i understand about the sores (i dont have outbreaks in my vagina,)

but if a mans skin comes in contact with my skin and no outbreak present if his skin rubs against any of my skin even without sores and if 'm possibly shedding does he have to have a opening in his skin such as a cut of some kind in order for the virus to enter?

This is possibly the longest sentence know to man. From what I get from your question, no he doesn't need to have a cut on his area to get infected. If your shedding and his skin comes in contact with the area that is shedding then it is possible to get the virus.

I respectfully ask, are you sure about that? It doesn't make sense to me. If you're right, then none of us should be touched by anyone else, anywhere on our bodies since we don't ever know where the shedding is occurring. I have my doubts about the whole shedding theory but assuming it's accurate, then surely the other person has to have a cut or opening for the virus to enter.

i agree

heres another long sentence coming, but no way is a virus entering your body without some kind of opening, even if someone with hiv bled on you it still has to have an opening in the skin to gain entrance

I have to admit, that makes sense. I've read differently, but it seems there has to be a pathway inside for the virus to establish residence. That's only logical. It can't just worm it's way through your unbroken skin. No other virus can, so why should herpes be any different?

To answer your first statement, I think, and this is just my thoughts, I'm not a scientist nor have done any tests; that typically HSV-2 is on the genital area, so the virus will only transmit if the shedding area is rubbed on other genitals or openings to the body ie mouth, eyes. The virus is very sensitive to oxygen so if the shedding area is rubbed with your hand it will have a very short life before it dies.

Again this is just my opinion but just because no other virus can doesnt mean herpes cant. Every virus is different. Thats like saying because I cant run a 6 min mile no human could.

Also broken skin can be ever so slight broken. The friction from having raw sex can cause small cuts without you knowing. The virus could work its way in there. And remember this virus IS microscopic and alot smaller then our pores. I see no reason why it wouldnt be able to work its way through our skin into our blood stream.

Suggest you get this book. Dr. Steven Sacks, now dead, was the world authority scientist on herpes. Its not the latest thing anymore as obviously the author being dead can't update it, but it is VERY good:

http://www.amazon.com/Truth-About-Herpes-Stephen-Sacks/dp/0919574661/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-8482307-2921718?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194267012&sr=8-1

re your "doubts" about shedding - there is no question. Some amazing women showed up daily for months and had daily swabs - can you believe it ?! - and they found virus on the skin some days (1-4% of non-outbreak days) when there were no outbreaks. Power to those women !

But the jury is still out on whether the present shedded virus can infect.

However, in one famous study where couples (where ONE person had it and the other didn't) were asked to only have sex when not sick / getting sick -ie only when "healthy", in one year

  • Where the woman had it and the man didn't: 5 men in 100 contracted it
  • Where the man had it & the woman didn't: 18 women in 100 contracted it

This leads them to think that yes, shedding DOES = infectious.

There was no comment about broken skin.

The virus hibernates / hangs out in the area of the "cauda equina" - the bunch of nerves that come out the holes in your sacrum (triangle tail bone)

1. Pic: http://health.allrefer.com/pictures-images/cauda-equina.html

2. Photo of a real one: http://www.caudaequina.org/issues/cephoto.htm

The virus can "wake up" and "take a walk" down any branch it wants. I have a few different sites I experience outbreaks = different nerves.

Thus any part of the lower body supplied by the nerves of the lower body can experience HSV activity - and it is ALL supplied by nerves.

There is a type of herpes called "herpes gladiatorum" where people get it on their legs, feet etc - and it interferes with / they give up contact sports like wrestling because of it.

So I hope you can see that wearing a condom offers only limited protection.

You could be shedding in the area of your underwear elastic - a condom won't help.

He could be shedding from his scrotum - a condom won't help.

See ?

https://imgur.com/a/cVi8yJY 2 weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex. Few days later I wake up with a stinging sensation in my urethra. I don't have any blisters, lesions or redness, my penis looks completely normal from the outside, but the stinging in my urethra is always there. Urinating doesn't make the pain worse. From the research I've done and how my body feels I'm pretty sure I caught genital hsv1. To make matters worse I think I transmitted it to my eyelid by touching my infected penis and then my eyelid which did develop a blister. Can anyone look at my lower eyelid and tell me if it looks anything like herpes?  I forgot to add that the blister is painless, but my eye is a bit watery. Other than that it's fine and my eyesight is good. Considering how this all developed in a matter of a week after I had unprotected sex it can't be much else than herpes..

Hey I see that they also sell the pill form in 100 mg and 500 mg form. Do you think this is as affective? They have the regular and extract version of the pill. Which would you think is the right one to get? And how many pills per day to get the same effect of say 16 seeds?

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.
