In Shock

Recommended Posts

It's just one more thing in a year of misery. I found out my husband of 4 years (we have been together 5) cheated on me. I found this out 3 days after finding out I was pregnant. So, we get through that whole situation and have a beautiful baby girl this summer...Now, I go to the Dr today, for what I thought was a yeast infection and he thinks it is herpes. I'm in shock. Of course, my husband says it wasn't from him because he was tested for all std's 9 months after he cheated. Could it really have laid dormant in me for 5 years? I had a complete set of tests done right after I met my husband because I had been drugged and raped and wanted to make sure I didn't pass anything on to him. Now, I have to wait a week for tests to come back, and then maybe another 7-8 weeks for a second set of tests? My Dr didn't give me anything to treat the outbreak right now..says it clears itself up on it's own? Or is he just not 100% sure it is herpes?

What a rough chain of events. I'm sorry to hear you've had to go through this but this forum can be quite helpful and a good source of support.

I am concerned - did your dr confirm your infection by performing a swab culture? Did you get herpes specific bloodwork completed? These would be helpful for several reasons.

1) if culture is positive and bloodwork is negative it indicates a new infection. Bloodwork can be negative for many weeks after initial exposure and retesting is recommended at about 16 weeks post exposure.

2) either testing if positive will tell you the strand of herpes you have acquired.

Note: most std testing does not include herpes simplex virus and Hiv. They are requested separately and usually require a signed consent form.

Your husband should be tested for herpes now too.

I think it is strange that if you had this for 5 years that you never experienced any symptoms during your pregnancy. It could be a new infection. Do either of you have coldsores?

My Dr took a swab culture or a piece of the sore..it was very painful. It felt like he was cutting a piece of it. He also took a blood work to test.

Neither of us have cold sores nor have ever had cold sores. Once in awhile I and he would get a red bump, that looks like an ingrown hair..and there is a hair in the bump, so just assumed it was an ingrown hair.

I know i haven't been with anyone else in over 5 years. Like I said he cheated in June of 06...but neither of us had outbreaks then either...I'm so confused.

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
