Year before last was my worst year, had one every month, as one would disappear 10-15 days time another would appear. How have I dealt with it, terribly. I actually take time off work, luckily my own business, not very good on the bank balance though. I take Famvir, l-lysine and clover leaf. I thought I had nailed it as I went all last year without one, then begging of March I've had 4 in a row with only 5-8 days apart. To help outbreaks I would say plenty of sleep, cut out foods high in Arginine, no stress and keep out the sun. Had for me as I work outdoors in 40c heat. Emotionally I'm a reck, it like my brain takes over and I can't stop stressing what I look when I have one. As most say on this forum it's only a cold sore, but to me it's the end of the world. Compeed patches are good to use with an OB, defiantly helps the healing process and at least the lady's can wear makeup to cover them.

How often are your OB, do you eat the correct foods. Do you get plenty of sleep.

Didn't get my first one until I was 20, now 45. Back home in the U.K. I would hardly get any and I led a very bad life, ie lots of raving. Now grown up all I do is eat healthy and lots of exercise and I'm riddled with the bloody things. Just can't understand why.

How do you cope when you have an OB.

Have you tried sunscreen for your lips ? Try some with zinc oxide . That's what my Dr told me. You should find some stress managment techniques. Emotional stress can make it worse. I feel you tho I'm that it makes me upset when people say they're just cold sores. They are psychological torture and can cause frustration dating if one gets them often.

Ive gotten one every month since my first outbreak. I got a bad one last month. One would appear. Took valtrex it would be gone end of day and new one popped up the next day. Went like that for a couple days. I had bad anxiety that month. Seems like I'm learning my triggers. Stress and anxiety can easily cause one so I've been taking supplements daily to boost my immune system. So in a way it's like I'm on suppression therapy . Im hoping I finally found a combination that works for my body.

I try and remember that this is temporary . And that I will find something to make these things come less often . That I will use this to be better and make myself healthier. I barley started getting them. I wasn't living a healthy lifestyle tho before . Have you tried supplements?

No not really started trying to eat healthier started to add more dairy I think that might be it cause trying to eat oatmeal and started drinking juicer juices. Dont.know if body is building up or what but trying to cut down on the milk.. to see what happens.. And just to b clear I have 1 and 2 and just found out in 11/2017 with #2 and went to doc because I was having ob #1 back to back. Well my kids never want to kiss me and to be honest I don't want that either, even thought both my daughters have had sores early in their lives. I just can't work out how they got it. I'm so so careful when I have a sore, I use a patch straight away, have my own towel, toothpaste etc etc, it's like i lead a separate life to my family. My wife has only had a few sores in twenty years together, but my kids do share her makeup, also their carer used to get sore. I'm just hoping they never get another one. Sex life is pretty crap with the wife as I have sores more that not. Feel quite lonely to be honest. These sores certainly ruin my life.

Yes I use factor 50 sunscreen on my face twice a day and use factor 50 lip balm constantly throughout the day. Since I've been running my own business I am completely stress free, that's why I can't understand why I've had four in a row after not having one for 14 months.

Some background before I explain- I have not been formally diagnosed with herpes but I do get cold sores. It's been at least 2 years since my last one and since my life is very fast paced it's always the last thing on my mind. So when I got into my current relationship I had totally forgotten that I actually get them. My current issue is that I didn't realize I was getting a cold sore because I recently changed acne treatments and disregarded the tingling sensation as a reaction. I gave my boyfriend oral sex and that night after work saw what has now become a sore. I was up till midnight looking up all the research I could and type 1 can effect genitalia. So long story short I probably gave it to him and I feel like crap to the point where I think he should breakup with me. And he thought it was curable(he grew up in a bubble) which makes me feel even worse. I know it's not the worst STD out there which is putting my mind at rest a tiny bit but I still feel like a terrible person and a walking plague sack.

      Hi all,
I had an outbreak during Christmas and while it was within the blistering/healing stages. I had accidentally wiped it off - causing the healing to start all over again. Normally when it accidentally peels off it heals without any scars. This time it has left a red mark where the outbreak occurred. it has now been 4 months. I have been applying coconut oil and chapstick and need a solution as I don't see it getting any better. I try to use cover up when out in public because it's just embarrassing.  Anyone else dealing with this?  What are you using?  I tried Maderma but it has this itchy feeling and I don't want to cause paranoia of an outbreak coming on again.
The dermatologist said it is just redness that can fade over time. Thinking I may need a second opinion?

Hi guys, so I’m relatively new to this site and to the Herpes virus itself. I was just diagnosed with HSV-2 about 3 weeks ago and suffered from an excruciating primary outbreak. I was in so much pain and had no idea how to manage it or my symptoms, aside from taking my prescribed antivirals. I couldn’t walk for days, instead I waddled around my house like a pregnant woman. It was so painful to pee I would literally sob and pace in front of my bathroom for 20mins before I got the courage to even sit on the toilet. I was miserable and the only comfort I found was in prescription pain meds. I searched everywhere online for ways to speed up the healing process and relieve my symptoms before I went insane. I found very little, just a few tips on how not to scratch your sores and wear cotton underwear. Annoyingly unhelpful tips. It took a bit of trial and error, reading dozens of medical articles on Herpes and the biology of ulcerated cold sores, but I finally figured out a regimen that healed my sores (and restored my sanity) in about 4 days. So, I’m sharing this in hopes it will help someone suffering from their first outbreak of genital herpes. I’m not a medical professional, this is just what worked for me. I consulted my doctor before trying any of this and she confirmed it all to be safe.
First, and this may seem obvious, but stop shaving/waxing. Let it grow, it’s okay. And go commando as often as you can. I didn’t wear panties for a week. It was actually pretty liberating.
Go to your local Walgreens and buy a couple boxes of the Aveeno active naturals soothing bath treatment with 100% natural colloidal oatmeal. Mix a packet of this stuff in a hot bath and soak. Make the water as hot as you can stand it. I would soak for an hour a day, twice a day. This soothes the inflammation and itchiness like nothing else. It also cleanses and moisturizes your skin so, ya know, win-win. Also, whenever I had to pee (I would wait until my bladder was about to explode) I would fill up the tub with again the hottest water I could stand and kneel in it, don’t squat. Then I’d pee. Instant relief. First time I tried it, I bit down on a hand towel just in case I needed to scream. Just a precaution if you have nervous neighbors.
I washed my genital area with only Dove’s sensitive skin body wash. The bar soap works fine as well. Use a baby washcloth (they’re softer) and gently wash every part of your vaginal area. Between your labia, sides of the vulva, vaginal opening, perineum, and between your cheeks. Rinse and repeat as needed. This cut down on my discharge and deminished the smell as well. It’s a gentle formula with no dyes, fragrances, or sulfates and it’s hypoallergenic so it won’t further irritate your already pissed off skin.
Now this was the game changer. You need to disinfect the area to help your sores heal. Listen. Hydrogen peroxide and  10% povidone-iodine. I read in a medical article that this healed genital cold sores faster than acyclovir cream, which just set my labia on fire. I would take about half a cup of hydrogen peroxide and mix equal parts of warm water to dilute. Make sure the water is warm, you’ll love it. Take a cotton pad and saturate it well, then dab away. I had sores on the sides of my labia, around my clitoris, and along my perineum so I concentrated my dabbing on these areas. Do this a few times, then let it air dry. Then I would take a q-tip dipped in the solution, place it on a sore, and rotate it. This helped with lifting that nasty, pus-filled core out of the sore. But do it gently. After that, I would pretty much do the same thing with the iodine. Iodine is an amazing antiseptic so use it generously. I would apply about 3 layers and let it air dry. Be carefu because it will stain surfaces and skin. I used a glove when applying.
You can get all this stuff from your local pharmacy or Walmart, Target, etc. When I started this regimen, it only took 3 days for all of my sores to lose their gross centers and become pink and healthy looking. By the 4th day, I had no more soreness, no discharge, no itchiness, and my sores had almost closed completely.  And of course I was taking my antivirals twice a day as prescribed. I know it’s not much, but it really did make a difference in my healing process. After about 8-9 days of doing this every day, twice a day, including the baths, all of the infected skin had healed and my culture swabs came back clean. I am now on suppressive antivirals, but I only take them when I feel that horrible tingle and itch (which is not often). After speaking with my doctor about natural ways to manage the virus, I got in touch with a local herbalist who pointed me in the direction of a number of herbal supplements that hinder the intensity of the virus on your system. I am taking L-lysine tablets twice a day, 1000mg, and Astragalus capsules, also twice a day, 1000mg. If you’d like to go the natural route with managing/preventing your outbreaks I would definitely recommend these.
Sorry for the length, but I hope this helps!

Looks like there is now a site that's in English selling Amenalief (amenamevir) for the rock bottom price of about $95.43 USD a day. ($668 shipped for 14 x 200mg pills at 400mg/ daily dose). Amenalief is one of the helicase primase-inhibitor class of drugs that has been around for the better part of a couple decades, but has just recently made it to market in Japan. Pritelivir is also a member of this drug class. For those that have less than stellar results from current antivirals, helicase primase-inhibitors are likely to offer a relatively impressive improvement in quality of life assuming you can afford the ongoign cost of using them suppressively (needless to say they are NOT a cure). As a side note, the FDA blocked further testing of Pritelivir back in 2013, so in case you're wondering why you cannot buy this class of drugs as a consumer at your local pharmacy for a more reasonable price using your prescription drug plan, you owe a large thanks to the FDA for your being forced to weight your physical and emotional HSV-related damages against the cost of this treatment.
If anyone out there is independently wealthy, willing to order an antiviral drug from a Japanese company, and would be so kind as to report back with their experiences taking Amenalief suppressively, I'm sure many of your fellow sufferers would be extremely thankful!
