Sex drive...let's talk about it.

I was recently diagnosed with HSV 2 a little over a month ago. My symptoms weren't as bad as they could have been because I went straight to Planned Parenthood and they gave me medication and saved my life pretty much, it only lasted about 2 1/2 weeks. Anyways, since then, I've had pretty much a non existent sex drive... I used to want it constantly before all of this. Has anyone had the same experience? Is it because of the HSV? Or is it a mental issue? I feel so bad because I haven't had sex with my boyfriend In over a month and he knows i have this, (he does not have it), but he still thinks it's because of him... I'm just genuinely not in the mood, ever. Which isn't normal for me... I just need answers, and anyone who tells me their experience might help me. No matter how much I try to think about having sex, or to get myself in the mood...it just seems like a chore to me... it's really depressing.

Yeah I went through the same thing, was a complete sex maniac before and would have it multiple times a day if I could with my girlfriend. But once I got diagnosed I definitely felt put off, I think it's the negative trauma you attach to the experience of your first out break, you see it as such consequence!

After a year I'm getting back to normal though thank god haha

Same here. Before hsv, wanted it all the time, very high sex drive! After diagnosis, almost two years of no sex drive!

I related mine not only to the OBs, but for me, my horrific experiences at the std clinic. I swore I'd never want sex or even to be touched again!

Luckily, that mindset didn't last!!!

Let me ask a basic question.  Do you feel "normal" down there after outbreaks?

I have constant itching and burning sensations from my knees to my hips.  This makes me not think about sex.  When I used to feel down there was an urge for sex.  Now I feel burning.  It's lasted 10 months.

Same boat. Was diagnosed in 2016. Haven't had an sex drive for 4 months now. I just cant find a way to get in the mood even if I tried.

I feel normal, but I've only had one OB. I do have some nerve damage down there in a certain area so it hurts to touch in that area now.. I get mild itching, but nothing more than that. I take acyclovir daily, I'm not gonna risk getting another OB.fuck that.

My boyfriend and I tried having sex twice a few weeks ago, it hurt really bad for me so I thought something else was wrong... so I was avoiding it, but we tried again yesterday, and it hurt. But I did the best I could not to think about it and it happened and didn't hurt anymore. And I felt totally fine afterwards, no OB or anything, no itching and no burning, nothing. So it was all in my head. Still barely have a sex drive, it takes a while for me to get into the mood. I'm just a lot happier knowing nothing else is wrong, that it's all in my head.

I've never had a typical actual OB but have constant irritation between my knees and hips.  And under the rim of my penis glans.  Blood test was positive for HSV1.

Assume all that irritation has to be coming from it.

I would honestly talk to a doctor about that. I'm not quite sure if HSV 1 does that, as far as I know. That really sucks though, I'm sorry you're going through that!

Have been to about 8 Drs about 22 times.  All leading to the same point of nothing to help.  Even saw a physical therapist.

Really need to find a Dr that wants to help get got he bottom of this.

Hopefully you will not go crazy.  I know for sure the more I think about it the more it burns.  If i can Distract myself I notice it less.

Scooby2112, Is it irritation on the skin or internal?

Feels like it's just below the skin.  Only visible sign is slight redness.

It ebbs and flows (always sort of there but better sometimes than others).

Dermatologist just said likely some type of atopic dermatitis.  Gave me steroid cream, which burned when applied but didn't really change the general feeling.  Then tried some non-steroidal barrier creams.  Those feel good when first put on (cool) but don't seem to eliminate the feeling either.

Might just take a long time or I have some messed up nerves skin that will be this way permanently.

I did try 6 weeks of anti-virals which didn't seem to help which I assume it is not directly tied to H.

I also tried 3 months of PT in case it was some pelvic nerve issues.  No improvement their either.  It did feel good though (leg and abdomen massages).

My pulse has also been abnormally elevated.  I am in good shape and monitor pulse a lot during exercise.  My standing pulse was always high 60s to mid 70s ,. Now I am consistently in the 90s.  So odd.  My blood pressure hasn't changed though.

Scooby2112,

Pain will increase pulse, that's body's normal response to pain.

Do you lift (heavy lifting)? For workout or job? Or ever lifted for workout or job?

I’m going to force him to get tested ! Thanks for your help !

@EssenceL25 there really isn't a question mark around the source, it's your latest partner. The median time from infection to an outbreak of lesions upon initial infection is 4 days.  The only thing that isn't certain is the type I suggest.

I asked if it was hsv 1 or 2 and the doctor said it was Hsv2. I’m not sure i just asked him when he was tested last he said this year I said I think we should go test together and he agreed . I’m going to bring it up again cause I really need to know if he gave this to me I wasn’t sure since it was so close to my previous relationship.

@EssenceL25 then it is all beyond reasonable doubt that the current partner is the source. A 'perfect' fit in terms of timing, symptoms and swab. It may be though that the type is not technically known. Culture swabs are very often not typed and just assumed to be HSV-2 if taken from a genital location. If you received oral sex in the days leading into 7 March then it is 50/50 as to whether this is HSV-1 or HSV-2. You could contact your doctor and confirm if the swab was actually typed (which is a second test where fluorescent antibodies for HSV-1 and HSV-2 are added and see which one 'glows').  If that test wasn't done then you do not know type. If you have oral HSV-1 yourself (cold sores) then this will be HSV-2. Does your partner have oral HSV-1? It is somewhat strange for him not to rush and test - many people have a 'reaction' if they truly do not know their status and have concerns that you infected them etc. (not initially rational of course). This indicates he may know his status - or maybe he just isn't simply the sharpest tool in the shed!?

I had flu like symptoms and ulcers on my vagina . They did a culture and I tested positive for hsv2. I asked my partner to get tested he agreed but I’m not sure if he will cause he hasn’t said anything else about it.
