Preferably sold on the internet? I do not have health insurance, I feel very sad and lost on what to do. If any of you guys have any information of generic medication that would help with outbreaks that would be amazing. Thank you so much. :-)

You may want to check out Goodrx.com. The online pharmacy HealthWarehouse is an available option through there (but you don't have to use GoodRx; you could go straight to HealthWarehouse). I was able to get a 60-day script for 1g Valacyclovir (generic Valtrex) for less than $50. It was actually less expensive than using my insurance.

In the same boat, I also had to search for affordable treatments. I found Neem capsules a natural anti-viral and Neem oil on Amazon for cheap. I started taking two Organic India neem capsules twice a day, and rubbing NOW brand neem oil on OB site twice a day.  Within first couple of applications was pain and itch free. Was shocked by effectiveness.

Within 1-2 months, I cut down to taking capsules one week on/ two weeks off, and only rubbing neem oil on once a week before bed.

One bottle of neem oil lasts months. If I feel even the slightest itch or tingle, I apply neem oil for a couple of nights before bed, and the blisters never surface.

Organic neem capsules run $13-$20 for 90 capsules.

NOW neem oil is under $10 for 1oz bottle.

Outbreak free for almost two years, after a little over a year of constant reoccurring outbreaks.

Acyclovir I believe is a $4 prescription at Walmart.

Can't get more affordable than that.

Sadly bubby, I don’t have health insurance.

I don't either, I'd already spent 1000's out of pocket. I went to doctors when I could pay upfront & out of pocket, but due to financial situations, I no longer have that as an option.

I love Amazon!!

The walmart prices often are without insurance. Even in the case of no help whatsoever generic acyclovir for a month should not be more than $30. You can also use the Costco pharmacy without a Costco membership, call them and ask what the price would be.

Generic valacyclovir also exists but it costs more.

I can't speak for others, but for myself, it's not just the cost of prescriptions it's the doctor visit to get prescription. A lot of medical practices won't take on a patient with no insurance. And the walk in clinics that will are almost always over $120 per visit

I have heard of that issue. However even if a private GP were willing to see you, you would be paying the same price as the walk in clinics due to the lack of insurance. And probably with a bonus wait time of several weeks.

I am not at all making any claims to what your finances may or may not be but if you have the ability just go to the walk in and use a credit card and pay it off over time. If that isn't an option then you may have to shift around your money to pay for the visit to get your RX. I've been there, done that it is not enjoyable but sometimes shit happens. I would also heavily encourage you to call Walmart and Costco's pharmacy and ask them what the prices for acylcovir  is for a months supply without insurance. The pharmacists are not going to judge you.

(No, am not weighing in on the right or wrong of private healthcare and such. That's another convo for another day.)

Luckily for me, my OTC natural treatments I found work so well, I couldn't imagine going back on any prescriptions, even after I get health insurance again. ;)

I was just pointing out it's more than just the cost of the meds sometimes when dealing with no insurance.

I pay out of pocket and up-front when I do see doctors, but since I pay out of pocket, I usually skip the GP and go directly to specialists. And fortunately, have dealt with being turned away for no ins by only one doctor, even though I had funds to pay for the visit.

There are also urgent clinics like in Walgreens etc that can be cheaper but can prescribe acyclovir.

Also you could look online.   Just ask that they give you a years worth of refills.  That is the key.  Then take it to Walmart and $4/month for acyclovir.

I use urgent care walk-in clinics for some things, too. I like local urgent care clinics.

I'm lucky to have one in my town owned and ran by a really good nurse practitioner who refuses to be bought out by the hospitals. She doesn't like the politics of hospitals, and she has more freedom  with things like how long she can dedicate to each patient.

Places like these can actually be awesome!!

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.

She tested positive for HSV2. No, there was nothing of that sort in that area.   However I also have ulcerative colitis so I’m on medication that makes me immunosuppressed. I have been bleeding a bit when I pass stools during the time of redness, so I’m unsure if I’m getting a flare from the colitis (from all the stress of everything) or if it’s due to the virus making it’s way to an already inflamed area and popping up as blisters that I can’t see and hence the bleeding.    I had two equivocal results (at 4 weeks and 6 weeks) that then went to a positive result (7 weeks after exposure). Combine that with some flu symptoms, redness, tingling etc. makes me feel it’s conclusive that this points to a hsv2 infection.
