This might be the best thing to ever happen to me

I never expected that I would find peace with my diagnosis. It has been the most challenging, depressing and utter heart wrenching thing to ever happen to me. With each new blister that would pop up I felt a piece of me die. But one day I allowed myself to shift my thinking. It’s silly, but a lyric from a Lupe Fiasco song changed literally everything. “It is what it is and it’s how it’s going to be”

I told myself that no matter the torment I put myself through, this diagnosis was never going away. So I could stress about it, I could have my regrets, I could cry, but to what end? No amount of stressing or heart ache would make the herpes go away. So instead I keep telling myself “it is what it is and it’s how it’s going to be” and I learned to be kinder to myself.

Instead of the guilt, regret, and sadness I allowed myself to create a healthier lifestyle from my diet, to my excerise, and to my outlook. I started to look at everything in a positive light instead of stressing over something I couldn’t change.

This has been the best thing to ever happen to me. I forced myself to be better in a way I never could have unless I got herpes.

This isn’t the end, it’s a new beginning.

When people come to this forum in the early throes of diagnosis and think their life is over, what u wrote is what i think (altho less eloquently).  That there is an opportunity now to be a better, more mature, more disciplined, more thinking person, that in the long run, if u rise to the occasion, will give u a more successful life.  Good thoughts.  Im glad u r rising.

Beautiful !!!  haha . i was a head of it and it got worse.  now i have control of it again ..  even if it spreads or gets worse all through skin it get better again .. usually your feeding it ..   eating better and foods better than junk food . she reason we addicted to easy junk or triggers .  quickest cure is food and immune system ..  don't feed the disease .  track progress and symptoms you learn what causes it .. you boost your immune system and it can fight it if healthy ..

    love you .

@swagdaddy hey. First / second outbreak was horrendous. Had all of the above and was wmotionally distraught. The pain is the worst in the start and i had nerve pain fatigue , flu symptoms then i got flu and was sick for over two months. But then it passed. The anti virals help and definitely make sure u sleep and destress. How r u feeling ?

I’m afraid to give it to someone even if we wear condoms. A boyfriend of mine gave it to me... never told me he had it. Relationship only lasted a few months after that. It’s been almost 3 years now.

Little update, I've upped the dose of Zinc to 100mg/days on rest days and 160mg/day for workout days. I also just came to Europe for holidays and I'm freezing in this weather (My body is used to tropical Thailand weather). The cold weather seems to strenghten my immunity somehow, as the OB is clearing off. I have experienced the same in the past - always on my trips to cold countries it seems to get better.  I wonder if hot weather could cause this? I do spend most of my time indoors with AC at 25 degrees celcius in Thailand though and always protect myself from the sun.
