Herpes antibodies in our children

Hi, I’ve read somewhere that woman who has herpes(in the past) then got pregnant, are unlikely to pass the virus to her offspring because her body send the passive antibodies through the placenta which protecting her newborn from the virus during the labour. Now, if it’s true.. how long that antibodies remains in the baby’s body? Is it that’s mean the baby won’t contract herpes in the future? For                example = I had herpes(GSHV2)  years before my pregnancy, had multiple outbreaks during my pregnancy and baby were born healthy. After the birth.. is my baby still has protection from the virus? If yes, how long?? Thank you.

Not long no.

However there is no way your baby will be infected with your genital HSV-2.

You cannot pass the virus to your unborn child during pregnancy. But if you are having a genital outbreak at time of delivery, you can pass the virus to the child via direct contact with the sores as the baby passes through the vagina. This issue however, is resolved via a C-section.

So your doctor should know that you have ghsv2 so he/she can check prior to delivery and do what needs to be done (i.e. C-section) to avoid infecting the baby. If you're not having an OB during delivery, then you can deliver the standard way.

Not long means how long? I really hope if they really get the antibodies and immune towards my virus in the future(post delivery). I’m not concern about the labour/birth, I’ve done c-section. I’m just seeking any information if they are immune towards my virus still or not, and how long that passive antibodies remains inside their body and protect them.

I’ve followed your story and understand what you are asking. 

The reality is that your child does not have antibodies any longer. However that isn’t relevant. There is no exposure now for them associated with your genital HSV-2 infection.

If you are breastfeeding you are continuing to deliver antibodies to your baby and their immunity will continue. The antibodies only dissipate when you stop breastfeeding.

Gosh, I wish it lasted longer too.

Gosh, I wish it lasted longer too. 

Been talked to the OB+Endocrinologist, the passive antibodies usually lasted for 6 months maximum.. but also some percentage of the women didn’t pass their antibodies at all. For HSV2 antibodies through the breastmilk, I never asked.. but probably yes.. since breastmilk is the product of blood. I’m not breastfeeding.
