Receiving oral sex

Recommended Posts

Alicia123

Hi, everyone! When I was diagnosed in September 2016, the non-HSV boyfriend I was with stopped giving me oral sex. I never talked about it as if it was the other way around  I would have stopped too. I'm no longer with him and I wanted to know if you guys receive oral sex (obviously when no OBs are present). I read about Dental Dams: does anybody use them? Im paranoid about virus shedding..Im on suppressive meds and last time I had an OB was almost a year ago! Im starting to date again and I wanted to know how to approach oral sex!

HSV2 doesnt like the mouth very much actually so it will be very very inactive if someone does get orally infected by it. However there is some link between meningitis and oral HSV2 but then Im refering to the non deadly kind. Obviously the risk of that happening is pretty small aswell.

@Divon I actually have types 1 and 2 and since Ive never had an oral ob Im assuming they are both genital. Should I be concerned about my genital type 1 being passed on during oral sex when no obs are present? I read that it sheds very little in a year, so Im assuming chances are low?

Is it possible to have both in the same place ?

Yes I believe there’s a guy on this forum that has both strains in both locations, they call him the lottery winner :joy:

@RNY18 I have no idea!! I was diagnosed after a swab but then there was only a " positive for herpes". I later had bloodwork and they identified types 1 and 2, but I it was never explained to me, so I assumed 1 for oral and 2 for genital, but reading the posts here I realize it's not that simple...if it's not possible to have both in one location (again, never thought about it), then I have oral AND genital herpes but never had a cold sore on my lips...

This guy is a bitter guy.  He foams at the mouth and rants. (I think he is jealous of Wilso) I have seen your posts and realize you are frightened and trying to reassure yourself.  There is truth in trusting your Drs but Wilso is knowledgable especially at reading the test values.  You are going to be ok.

Pritelivir study phase II updated a couple days ago (Sept 19) and holding steady at a March 2020 completion date. Based on all current findings this could effectively be a "functional cure" which could halt symptoms and cut transmission risk to near zero. Lets all continue to hope for good news here https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03073967

That’s good news mate. If only herpes lesions did that!

Great to see another candidate progress forward- hope to see a phase I kick off in 2020. Remember all it takes is 1 goal to succeed, the more shots on goal the better   Sounds like Dr. Friedman was alluding to this paper in his conversation with @mikeherp
