HOW TO REDUCE TRANSMISSION

Recommended Posts

BeautyLover321

Hi all..been a while.

Ive been using Valtrex and haven't experienced any OBs since Feb (when I started)..I'm grateful, as I was having frequent OBs before. I take a pill every other day. Also, I got vaccinated for VZV after my dx, and read that reduces OBs so maybe that's why I havent had an OB. Not sure

So I'm writing because I met this guy recently....and I feel like things are getting serious. I really really like him. He's the first guy I've even thought about being serious with since my dx. I can't infect him..I dont know what to do. I want to be in a normal, happy relationship and if I lose him or transmit to him, I will be so depressed.

I know I'm pretty much asymptomatic at this point (except for the twitching I still experience - maybe due to something else, idk)..but I really dont like condoms. If we take it there...how can I reduce transmission?

Has anyone transmitted on suppressive therapy? I'm willing to up my dose to everyday if we start having sex.

Are there any other creams/ointments I can rub to reduce spreading?

I wish there was a kit we could use to see when we're shedding. This is so unfair!

Ps-  I had regular unprotected sex for months before this with my ex who never showed any symptoms. But he has HSV1 so I'm not sure if he just has protection already or what.

Get a condom that doesn't smell like latex!?!? Not all smell funky! Or you name the issue.

The risk of female to male transmission while on correctly dosed suppressive therapy (EVERY DAY) is 2% in a year only on meds. With condoms it is 1%. In a year having sex at least 1 time a week.

First thing is first he needs to get tested to see if he has HSV to start with. It isn't in the usual test battery and many people think it is.

Second, what HSV do you have? As HSV-1 doesn't provide 'protection' from acquiring HSV-2 with regards to the comment about your ex.

Hello! Thanks so much for your reply.

I was told (and believe) I have HSV 2. They told me that on the phone; it was confirmed through swab. I have never taken a blood test or been tested for it otherwise.

I've read mixed reviews about HSV1 providing protection-- because some studies seem to allude that it does. If this is true- it makes sense because I never had chicken pox or HSV1 in my entire life so I think it explains why I caught HSV2 from a one night experience (just my luck and just my own theory)

Although I still experience twitching in my body -- I feel happy that the valtrex every other day suppresses it. But I do wonder, because I'm experiencing such reduced symptoms; if my shedding is reduced too. I doubt it but just a thought.

Anyways - I can live with condoms but I don't want to.. so I'm hoping for some guidance :(

Using protection is very important as herpes isn't the only std around...

Do you have no symptoms outside of an outbreak?   Some of us have had symptoms for over a year straight.

So sorry for my late response.. Im not getting any notifications

I dont really have symptoms but my body twitches alot. Like my legs or my eyes sometimes. I suspect this could be a symptom due to HSV or maybe stress/caffiene

Have you received any clarification on these signs and symptoms? I have been experiencing the same thing with the nerve pain in the same approximate locations and was wondering if you had found anything out about it being related to HSV-2?

Hi all  thanks for getting back to me. I had a swab and it came back negative . But I’m still not convinced. I’m gonna see a specialist I think . I’ve taken photos and to me there look like scabs healing.    I am now freaking out more because I have started a new relationship and the other day she broke out in 3 cold sores. She said this is the first time this has happened. I feel ashamed I may have given this to her . I have spoken to her and told her my fears and this may have now ruined my relationship.  I don’t know if it’s ok to share pictures on here but if it’s ok I would like to do this and get peoples thoughts

Hey @K1009 I can report that this is entirely consistent with a recent infection. Your body can take a few months to generate and stabilise the immune responses. The outbreaks can be a bit unrelenting during this period. Your body will get in top of it. Is this a genital outbreak from oral sex?
