Diagnosis & treatment

:cherry_blossom: I diagnosed myself with herpes, as the drs I have seen either dont want to look at my blisters, dont want to "break the news" to me, or cant even make an intelligent guess after looking right at a blister.  Thats 2 GPs and a dermatologist.  Finally, i was sent to an immunologist.  He at least acts interested, altho im still not sure im going to the right dr.  Does anyone have any suggestions about getting to the right dr for this?  Valacyclovir makes my platelets go low.  He says i should be able to take one of the cyclovirs, just not regularly--like when i have an extra bad one or have a vacation planned.  I see people here going to various drs, including GPs, dermatologists.

Have you never had a blood test to confirm whether you have HSV or not? Instead of a dermatologist you need to see a gynecologist.

Hey

i see u are in usa not sure what the tests r there. I had very bad exp with drs and getting a diagnosis because there is nothing to see except excruciating pain and other symptoms. When they swabbed me it finally came back positive so try that when u feel symtoms and do not take the anti virals it can effect the Results.

u can try take a lower dose of valtrex daily as a preventer. Not the full dose. And vitamins. Other posts on this site have referenced the good ones.

I have never been tested.  I think it looks and acts fairly typical and theres nothing else it could be.  I am taking a BUNCH of supplements now and am getting into essential oils, changing my diet.  I was having BO's back to back.  It hasnt been very long, but am very encouraged to have had a week BO free!  Oregano oil worked like a miracle for me on my last BO.  So i am checking out other antiviral essential oils, making sure to have a backup plan.  Lysine used to work for me until it didnt.  I have always been a healthy eater but it was hard to give up nuts and my fabulous homemade granola in which every damn ingredient was bad (oats, nuts, seeds, coconut...)   Love this forum.  Ive gotten so many ideas and so much hope...Thank u for responding to my post.

hello all, update... so the white ulcer inside started around january 4... and today it is still there... no burning while i pee, just a constant mild irritation feel, no other symptoms i went back to get retested 2/12 so 2.5 months after exposure... including HSV, HIV, gon, chlam, everything came back negative... the doctor thinks it's some form of chlamydia, he gave my doxy for 10 days is it too soon to tell if i have HSV? is it possible to have an ulcer inside the urethra and be fungal or bacterial?

Probably not many.  I'm going to change my twitter symbol to the copper ribbon at least.

okay! I guess I will just start at the basic dosage of vitamin C and go up every week little ? I take 1500 mg of super lysine like the bottle says and it still gives me gas and diarrhea. hoping it will pass if not I'll drop down to 2 a day! I really appreciate the advice! i know we would all.do ANYTNING to not have OB  at the moment idc about stigmas od boyfriends or dating or sex....I just care about FEELING healthy in my own skin. this is my one and only life

That sounds like a good place to begin.  The lysine worked really well for me for about a year and a half.  Then things got steadily worse for me and nothing worked until vitamin C.  My immune system is not that great even tho i take care of myself, so u may have good luck if u have a decent one.  With the vitamin c, u must 1) take it at intervals throughout the day, not all at once 2) dont increase the amount u r taking too fast 3) it will give u gas at higher doses and even diarrhea if u go crazy with it. These r signs to lower your dose!  If u can just control your OB's with vitamin c and lysine or anything else, maybe a cure will finally become available.
