Hello comrade sufferers

This is my first post and I’d like to say hello and express my solidarity and support to everyone in this forum.

After very poor medical advice for two weeks being plied with antibiotics, I got a second opinion and I wasn’t that surprised when he said HSV-1 as I’d been privately dreading it despite assurances from the first doctor.

My symptoms were a sore throat, spots inside the mouth behind the lower lip, some slight eye pain and being ridiculously tired and general malaise although I did not have a fever. There have been no cold sores outside the mouth.

I am going to the hospital to hopefully get proper testing. In the meantime, the doctor has written me a prescription for Aciclovir (topical and ocular) and Zovirax.

He has also recommended taking Enterogermina and Lactobacilus (Spanish spellings) to counteract the negative effects of the antibiotics which seems very sensible.

He suggested that if the hospital couldn’t do the tests straight away, I should start taking the medication anyway..Is that normal or should I wait for a definite diagnosis? Also the initial contact was just over 3 weeks ago now with the symptoms showing after 4-5 days. I have read thatthe medication is not that useful unless given at the beginning of an outbreak.

I haven’t really processed the news yet as I am focusing on just getting better but I’m sure it will hit me at some point.

Thanks

Why didn’t this doctor take a swab? This doesn’t sound much like herpes. I’d be careful here until you get a confirmed diagnosis.

He said the hospital has a large sexual health department with all the facilities and they should do it for free if I present my European Health Card. He wrote me a letter to give to them.  I think they are limited as to what they do at the surgery.

I wish I had said no to the antibiotics as they have definitely made me more ill. I think he is right that it’s a virus - herpes or not. I will definitely take the probiotic supplements. Hopefully I can get tested tomorrow and also ask further from the specialists.

That is extremely rarely the case, although it may be mild, most everyone has an outbreak within days of infection. Correct she is blaming you because of your honesty when her boyfriend may have an oral HSV-1 infection. You also tend to find that with the news, some people align subsequent symptoms and convince themselves very readily it must be herpes. Very often, it simply isn’t.

Hey MyOhMy, I don't have any answers, but I wanted to let you know that I'm having the same experience as you. You are not alone in this. I've had it for 16 months and I have outbreaks so constant I often can't tell when one ends and the next begins. (I usually don't have blisters, but I have near constant fatigue and nerve pains in my thighs and hips, sometimes mild fevers, there's a "flare up" when the nerve pains get noticeably worse about once a week or once every two weeks so I assume that's a new outbreak). Valtrex does not help me at all. I am immunocompetent and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I'll be seeing an immunologist in two months, which I'm sure won't help at all, but it's worth a shot Also to note: I also got cold sores multiple times (always mild) this past year while on valtrex, so something's gotta be going on with me.

So I looked trivalent up, and found an interesting article. What also surprised me is, they haven't completely given up on GEN-003 yet. Trivalent would be great if it would work. Since it already is an approved drug. https://www.acsh.org/news/2019/04/12/will-antiviral-vaginal-gel-help-prevent-herpes-maybe-maybe-not-13944
