Negative swab. Blood test?

Recommended Posts

Emmavb

Hi. After a one time unprotected oral sex event, within a few days I started to feel ill and developped blisters and sores and irritated gums inside my mouth and eventually small blisters on my lips too. I also had some vaginal symptoms, strangely, like painful and frequent urination. I still have mild oral symptoms now: small painful blisters coming up regularly on my lips, especially right before my menstruation. It doesn't look like the typical cold sores, it's milder than that, but it hurts a lot. I'm worried because they are recurring since this event of oral sex.

I had a swab and it tested negative. I'm a bit doubtful whether it was valid. There were no fluid-filled blisters at the time and the spots were there for a while before I tested. Also, I have no clue what else it can be.

Do you guys recommend to still have a blood test? Or to let it go?

For your peace of mind, I feel a blood test will help.

The only issue is though that if positive for HSV-1, you may have had it since childhood. At least then you could consider antivirals to see if they help.
