I know the transmission statistics for Genital HSV1 but...

This question is for all the Genital HSV1 positive people that have had genital to genital sex and or received oral sex after your diagnosis. Has anyone transmitted the HSV1 virus to any of your partners, to your knowledge?  Or has anyone been infected with HSV1 from genital to genital and/or giving oral sex?  Did you use protection? I’ve seen all the statistics on Genital HSV1 transmission and shedding rates. I wanted to hear from the community about their experiences with transmission.

Doctor told me I have genital herpes HSV1 just at a glance, I´m not positive diagnosed yet.

What I can tell you is , I don´t have any other symptomp as you can find in internet, only the bumps and blisters in the genital area.

I have had unprotected sex with my partner in the past and he had gave me oral, I haven´t noticed any sores in his mouth not even in his penis but I did noticed red bumps in his back and arms. So probably he had HSV1 from a long time but not visible BO in genital or oral area.

Thanks for your reply @dancingmoontj.  That’s possible, seems like a common them with Genital HSV1 is transmission from receiving oral sex. Made this post because I was curious if anyone had an experience of contracting HSV1 through genital to genital or genital to oral contact. Or giving it to someone from genital to genital or genital to oral contact. I have only seen a few stories of people saying they definitely got it from genital to genital contact. I haven’t seen any stories of someone getting oral HSV1 from giving oral sex.

1) I have not transmitted to anyone. I have used condoms with almost all of my partners. I have had some unprotected sex, nobody has caught it from me.

2) I was infected genital - genital (anal sex) the man took off the condom without my consent. There were no visible sores on the man. I also gave him oral but did not get it on my mouth. I think every std out there is more transmittable via anal sex

@AnonFThanks for your response. I agree, anal probably transfers STDs/Viruses easier then vaginal and oral.  Did the guy that gave you Hsv1 give you oral that night? I 100% got it from receiving oral.  Sense then I’ve received unprotected oral sex with a few parters and sex with a condom with one partner with no transmission.

I contracted ghsv-1 genital to genital with a condom (unfortunately- but it's still very rare. I realise in my case that I was part of a low statistic) I just went on a date with a guy I met online also with ghsv-1 who caught it from a girl with ghsv-1. I believe that they were not using condoms in his case. It's early days yet, I know that there's a low chance of passing it on when taking precautions- I may consider suppressive therapy for peace of mind. But it's early days and still broken at this point.

@emzThanks for your response. True, according to the statistics it is rare for genital to genital transmission but I’ve been hearing more and more stories of it transmitting that way. Have you had a discordant partner? Have you ever passed this virus to anyone? It’s early days for me too, trying to come to terms with this.

No problem @Braino, early days for me yet so no, no negative partners at this stage. Tbh I think I'm going to look into counselling and therapy before embarking on that mission! Terrible health anxiety now unfortunately. From what I've read online though most ppl do not pass it to their partners as they try to be extra careful.

No he did not so without a doubt it’s from the anal sex. The first outbreak was in that zone too. I have received oral from people and nobody has caught it to my knowledge. They’re more likely to get it from kissing someone w oral Hsv1

Hey everyone- I find this site so refreshing because it's the only place I actually feel understood and safe lately. My friends are extremely supportive but that only goes so far, you know? I know we're all strangers but it's nice to think we're all in this together at least.
Anyway, I was diagnosed with genital hsv1 four months ago and I had a really hard time learning to live with that. I got the virus from a stupid drunken one night stand. Despite this, the guy I had been seeing for a while at college was supportive and told me he still wanted to have sex despite the diagnosis. Which is great, but I'm TERRIFIED of transmitting to him. I know everyone says it's rare to transmit genital hsv1 but I'm such a hypochondriac and so paranoid. I've read some horror stories of it happening online which hasn't helped. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or advice? I haven't had sex sine my diagnosis so I'm scared to death of getting back in the game.
I found a red bump on my vagina yesterday and popped it and now I'm worried it's a mini outbreak. I keep feeling like my thighs tingle occasionally sometimes too. I'm not sure if I'm just finding excuses to stay celibate because I'm so scared of transmitting or I'm just being the right amount of cautious. I can't tell if it's all in my head or not!
      Thanks!

      Hi,

So back at the end if October 2016 i had sex with my then boyfriend as well as oral sex. A day later I had excruciating ovary pain and a bit of discomfort down below. I was checked out by my gyno and saw nothing and even did a sonogram of my ovaries and nothing. Then February of 2017 i had a new partner who also performed oral sex on me and same thing happened only I did have irritation down below and well as the ovary pain 2 days after oral sex. I also had paper cut like sores that m6 doctor swabbed to be negative for herpes. Now comes to this past weekend I received oral again and this time again the ovary pain always on right side. And this time my lady bits hurt bad and I am peeling from my clitoirus and have alot of itchiness. My vaginal are at the opening so super red. And also on the inside of the labia majors is super dry and flaky as well as shiny. I also have a bit of a few cuts a bit above the cilotral hood. Could this be genital hsv1 occurring everyone I get oral sex performed on me? Is this normal. I Have yet to confirm this. I Have had blood test done which have all been negative but I'm aware herpes test miss 1 of 10 hsv1 infections. Does anyone with genital hsv1 get recurrences after oral sex?

      Hey all!
I'm hoping some may be able to shed some light on my issue. I was visually diagnosed almost 3 years ago with Genital Herpes. Two weeks ago after experiencing outbreak after outbreak I took a type specific blood test that showed I'm positive for type 1 and not type 2.
My outbreaks don't look like any herpes pictures I've found online. They are characterized by long cuts down the sides of my labia and around my perinium that sting, itch and bleed when I wipe after urinating. There is never any scabbing or blisters that I've seen. My doctor never took a swab because she said if it's been after two days since the OB started the swab won't be accurate. These usually happen twice a month or more even when taking antivirals every day. It's so discouraging.
I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone else has had this much trouble with type 1 genitally? I was told since type 1 prefers the mouth area that it wouldn't cause too much trouble genitally. I have NOT found that to be the case for me unfortunately.

      Hi Everyone,
I am over my first outbreak and although i am 'healed' i still have bouts of what feels like phantom herpes pain. I would describe it not nerve-wise, but almost an awareness in my mind-wise, like the tenderness, itch, etc. is still there at times, but then disappears, or changes location in my genital region. Can anyone else relate?

Hey @Catalyst4 and welcome to the website. There is no relationship between lichen planes or psoriasis to herpes. Follow the treatment recommended by your doctor. If steroids it is then have no worries regarding herpes.

Hi all - I’ve been getting weird recurrent redness on my glans since January. I foolishly had unprotected sex and this nightmare started a week or so later. It starts off as a small circle of redness that turns oval and then spreads. There is no bump or no fluid and it doesn’t itch and is not painful. It also gets flaky like psoriasis after a week or so then the skin becomes shiny and thick.  I got a biopsy that said it was possible Lichen Planus. But was a herpes infection responsible for triggering it? I had a swab when the inflammation was at it’s worse and it came back nEgative for herpes but I think it was done way too late. My dermatologist says it’s not herpes- but this all started after an unprotected sex encounter so I think it’s related to some infection somehow. It did go away completely with doxycycline and cortisone cream only to come back a couple of weeks later after finishing  the medication .  I’m set to get my blood test in a few weeks but that will only tell me if I’ve been exposed to HSV, not that the redness is actually HSV.  If it is HSV and it’s causing the Lichen Planus or psoriasis how do I treat it? Steroids will make me more susceptible to further outbreaks Does anyone get this shiny skin as well with their outbreak that does not go away on its own? i have pics I’m trying to upload but the size limitation is a problem ...

Hi @hi202020 note that all immune disorders of over activity are related to the immune system attacking the body tissue. They can be highly serious issues such as: lupus, multiple sclerosis, diabetes (type 1), Hasimoto’s etc. Prostadynia is an umbrella term for a number of issues in the genital region. Often you are able to drill down to a more specific cause but sometimes not. The issues in the umbrella are such things as prostatitis, pudenal nerve ‘entrapment’, erythromelagia and fibromyalgia to name a few.

The burning (neuralgia, neuropathy) is common...unfortunately even doctors don't know if it means your shedding or not....not necessarily though. There are a lot of nerve issues with herpes...it's way more a nerve issue than a skin issue. Do the antivirals help you?
    • Kurdt01
Short of something none of us knows about that comes completely out of left field (which is entirely possible), our best bet on something anytime soon is Pritelivir....hopefully it works as well as we all hope.
