Partner diagnoses.

Hey,

So recently been diagnised with hsv2 and at the time I had 2 sexual partners.  One of my partners went and got tested for hsv1 and hsv2 and both tests came back negative. When I asked the other partner about his test results he told me that when he went to the doctor, he was told that because he has had cold sores in the past if he was to get a blood test, the blood test would not differentiate beetween the two types of herpes and the test would not be accurate and he would need to be demonstrating symptoms so he could get a swap. I want to know is this true?

Hey @Florence.1293 the doctor is indeed incorrect. Blood tests are available that are type specific for HSV-1 and HSV-2. The doctor's knowledge is outdated.

However it may all be a moot point. How were you diagnosed with HSV-2? Blood or swab?
