My prognosis is that the funding for herpes will be either cut down or completely stop for sometime. Curing herpes was never on the priority list of NIH. Though i pray my prognosis goes wrong.

I believe from others studies lysine showed mixed effects. HoweverI would question those studies and designs if they are looking at the right factors. The causative factors of chronic infections are a little more complicated than lysine yes or no.  Traditional diets as one can see are naturally high lysine and it seems important in the case of viral infections whether if appears to help or not on the surface.  I posted it as it’s just such a well written and referenced article and explains a lot of orthomolecular science (HTMA science) and is based on the same science as Synergy (science is science published or unpublished!). I cannot tell you how many times I was told this year “It’s not science till it’s published”.  I thought @hk81 might enjoy it as a jumping point into the foray of hazy patchwork of unpublished and published science while applying their keen intellect.  I give this resource to most people as I think it’s an excellent article.

I take 1000mg of L-lysine daily.  I heard it helped tremendously with OBs. And I never have OB’s. So. I believe it!  (And I’m on no suppressive drugs)

I don't  believe this will affect the HSV research too much.

What makes you think that you have HSV-2 in any or a specific location?

PCR testing in Ontario or USA?

Recommended Posts

emcee

I live in Ontario where PCR testing is not available. I've had a year and a half of horrible symptoms and subtle lesions. The lesions are too small to be accurately cultured, and my IgG tests have been negative as of three weeks ago, but my symptoms are highly suggestive of herpes. I saw an infectious disease specialist recommended i get a biopsy (which it looks like I'll have to do, but funny, herpes doesn't care when my appointment with a dermatologist is and the lesions only last a few days). I'd prefer to not have a doctor cut away my skin where the nerves are already in frequent pain.

Does anyone know of a way to get a PCR test done in Ontario or in the USA a short drive away? I've been researching but can't find a company online that lets you do it over the mail. If I go to the USA, I presume I'd still need to see a specialist which would require a referral from a US doctor?

What about selfcollect.com? They have a swab HSV kit that I think is PCR. Not sure if they ship to Canada but you could probably ship to a proxy in the U.S.

That's good. I'm interested in what you find out, I have a case that is similar in some ways to yours.

@higgboson2 what are your symptoms like?

I have mild fevers sometimes, near chronic fatigue and nerve pains in my lower right groin and hip where I (only recently) get burning on my skin and small lesions. It feels almost like someone kicked me there. The lesions and burning started 3 months ago and has been non stop since then. Some nights it's bad enough that I have trouble sleeping. Over the past year I've also often had bilateral burning in my thighs, hips, and lower back. Also, valtrex does nothing

In genital area, itching and burning. No classic blisters, but I get things that look like folliculitis (bascially they look like zits) as well as red patches. No nerve pain, but I do have extreme fatigue maybe one week out of a month. I also have oral symptoms but inside the mouth rather than around it. I also get strange rashes on my torso occasionally. I'm getting both swabbing and western blot done, I'll let you know what I find out.

Hope you're okay. I'm newly diagnosed. The worst time is waiting and trying to determine what's going on with your health. It causes a lot of anxiety. I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to or bring your frustrations and worries to. You don't need to do it alone. I know how it feels. Hang in there.
