Recommended Posts

Confusing2me

I just got my test results printed out today and I was wondering why are my hsv 2 number so high soon after exposure?

I had sex on May 13th went into the the doctor June 7th due to symptoms of having an sti. Got called on June 13th with the results of positive for hsv 1 and 2. I know about hsv 1 already but hsv 2 was new. Tested negative back in February. Test reads:

Hsv 1 igg, type specific ab 48.50 above high normal

Hsv 2 if, type specific ab 18.10 above high normal

Both show a date of 6/8/19.

I did have sex with a different person back in April.

Hey @Confusing2me does the test specify what is positive in terms of the value?

Is it 1.1, 11 or 20?

Its

<0.90 negative

0.90-1.09 equivocal

>1.09 positive

The testing confirms infection with both HSV-1 and HSV-2. I’d agree it seems unlikely that the 13 May sex represents infection day.

What test did you have in February? Why did you test for HSV then? Or did you have a STD panel?

Yes it was a full STD panel like this one from June. I always get a full panel done when I go to the doctor every since I tested positive for Hsv 1 2015.
