Recommended Posts

HSVI - >1.10 positive

HSVII - <.90 Negative

According to my doctor I'm HSVI positive. Is that what this results show?

Okay, I have a question. I have HSVI correct so how can I find out if it's a recent or past infection? I've never had cold sores in my life. Well that I can remember and my last sexual encounter was with my fiance back in like September. That's 3 months ago.

I had itching and discharge but that was diagnosed as a yeast infection when I first went in to my doctor. Then afterwards I had that viral culture of a cut I had and it came back negative. The next day I went in for blood draw to check for Herpes 1&2. Came back positive with Herpes I and negative for Herpes II.

Could it be possible to have Herpes I down there?

No, he's never had coldsores. Yes, I have been the recipient of oral sex before.

I guess I just want to know if I have it oral or genital. Because I know you can have HSV oral or genital. Is there a test that would be able to tell me that? Or do I have to have like a cut or sore and get tested at that time to know?

the only way to know definitively where an infection is located is by either having an active ob or by having a swab test and being lucky enough to have the virus shedding at that time and the swab result being positive for the virus.

I guess at this point I'm confused.

I already got a viral swab test done for my cut I had when I first had it when I went into my doctors office. That came back negative for HSVII. I wish I had my results right now to be more sure of what I'm saying. Then my blood test came back positive for HSVI and negative for HSVII. Being as how the last time I had any sexual relations of any kind was three months ago then I'm thinking the tests are correct. HSVI probably came back positive because I have been exposed to that strand previously and the test found antibodies in my blood. It didnt' find any antibodies for HSVII so then I dont have type 2 because if I did the antibodies would of shown up for it in my test. So I guess for now I'm going to give it a rest. I have two more days left before I get to see my fiance again and I should really focus my mind on that.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Esp. Calliope.

FC17 - if it has been since September since you had sexual contact then I think that your blood test should be accurate and if it says you're negative for hsv2 then I'd think it was correct.

If you had genital symptoms and a positive test result for hsv1 then the evidence of an ob would indicate an infection but at the time you had the swab the virus just wasn't present. in the absence of coldsores that would give you an idea of where your infection is.

That isn't the best news but it isn't the worst news either.

I hope you have a great visit with your honey. I'd concentrate on getting lots of hugs. :)

When I broke out/ shed it usually was on my backside left side, my  upper crack or back right below the belt! Doggy style is my absolute favorite position which makes him very vulnerable! I think there definitely is an advantage to wearing some sexy clothes or latex! Or even the liquid gloves. I think the biggest problem is that people shave now and they nick and cut themselves! That leads them open for infection on any part of the boxer area!

I’d build on this to say that the volume of virus is critical. It has been observed that shedding instances where there are 10^7 virions are required for a pragmatic chance to actually get through the skin and it’s natural defences. Most shedding instances are well below this threshold. I’d also suggest that for many asymptomatic transmissions, most of the virus comes to the surface during the sexual act itself. So little point testing beforehand.

Thank you for sharing that. Very resourceful.

I wasn't following the conversation closely, but yes, all that matters in terms of being contagious is if the virus makes it to the skin.

@Cas9 isn't that a "technicality"? From the sound of it this means that on a cellular level there is a daily battle but at the end of the day the virus can't transmit until it is present on the skin... right? I mean the question will still be: how many days is the virus present and transmittable. The mechanism (the technicality) is important but also not important... but I could be wrong, just trying to interpret.
