What are the chances????

I seem to run into the same question after disclosing, “what are the chances of transmission”?  As for me, I’ve been diagnosed for nearly 3 decades with GHSV2.  I’ve presented graphs, statements,  etc., and now realize that while they realize possibility is always present, they are looking for the “odds”, more or less of transmission—not a scientific response—in other words, how a layman would say it?

I take Valtrex, so I’m making another stab at it:   WITHOUT a condom, via asymptomatic shedding and taking anti-virals, what are the chances of transmission?  1/4 of a percent?  1 in 100?  1 in 500, 1 in 1000?    I need the KISS approach, just a simple, straightforward response to “what are the chances”.

Thanks,

Henry

Maybe the answer is here. Did the westover heights contain the answer? Wilso would know.

Quest, I do appreciate your effort—but I was a communications/marketing major in college, I’m lost in the article.   I haven’t looked into Westover, but will.  Hoping Wilson will weigh in.   I need something that I can share, in the simplest, layman’s terms.   Maybe thats not possible because of the nature and complexities?  Thanking you again, Henry

I have seen the following numbers quoted on Reddit but I dont have a source (and yes reddit is not a good source, need the underlying medical research). My understanding is Male to female is going to be up to 2x (so doing nothing you have up to a 8% chance):

Quote

These are female to male transmission risks for PIV sex, when the woman has genital HSV2, based on relationships 3+ months old, avoiding sex during outbreaks, having sex on average twice per week:

4% risk of transmission after an entire year of sex if no condoms or antivirals are used.

2% risk of transmission after an entire year of sex if condoms OR antivirals are used.

1% risk of transmission after an entire year of sex if BOTH condoms AND antivirals are used.

JHenry; I'm picturing you sitting on the bed with your potential sex partner and suddenly bringing in an easel with graphs and charts. Not very romantic  :)

Quest, I DID find info on Westover.   I took screen shots and will look at it tomorrow.   Thanks for the suggestion.  Henry

LOL, not me!   I’d do a PowerPoint presentation!   In truth, you are not far off, I can be pretty extreme and it’s only gotten worse 😩

I found the  disclosure flyers and the pamphlet download and put it into another thread. (Disclosing section)

it is in layman's terms and don't sell yourself short. On the NCBI articles a lot of times you can understand them well enough.

Reddit goes on to say that over time, asymptomatic shedding declines.  I knew this, but is there any validated study/information to support this statement?

I was not aware that AFTER year one, using anti-virals, it was reduced to 2% shedding.  I thought it was closer to 5%.   I’ve had this for 25+ years, wondering what the shedding rate could/would be while taking Valtrex?

Yes, but every married person who I found out about that has this waited 6-8 months into the relationship to disclose it. But maybe you're right. If I had told her 6-7 months in, she'd still have Googled it and flipped out, and maybe it would have been harder then. I don't know. I don't see myself going through this level of pain and rejection so easily next time. I really don't. I'm taking the meds. I use protection. It's been almost a decade since I've had it so I'm not worried about shedding or passing it on so easily. British studies confirm that the first 2 years are the most contagious and we're passed that. I'm just over this. I've never been in so much emotional pain in my life.

Is this herpes? I can’t find any pics that match this exactly and my symptoms don’t really match. I don’t have really any of the typical herpes symptoms other than pictured, so I figured it could be friction as I have recently been having a lot of sex with a new partner. Way more than normal. Started having unprotected sex about 3 - 4 weeks ago. These symptoms only started about 3-4 days ago. Felt burning in some areas and only some very few tiny red areas/spots appeared. Almost shiny in appearance. Seems to settle very quickly. They were only present for a day or so. Also had some very mild irritation after I pee but not during. This spot has 2 small red lumps that are now dry around the outside. It’s like it’s been rubbed off and the skin is dry and shiny underneath. It doesn’t seem to be lesion. There was no puss or any leakage, nor was the skin ever red under them. They also got better within a day or so. I still have red spots around but they are very small and not bunched together and some general discomfort but I feel it’s because I’ve touched it so much! Stressing a bit!  my research tells me friction burn/blister , Fungal ,herpes a bit of it all! I have no idea! Please help! Thanks in advance.

I’m going to force him to get tested ! Thanks for your help !

@EssenceL25 there really isn't a question mark around the source, it's your latest partner. The median time from infection to an outbreak of lesions upon initial infection is 4 days.  The only thing that isn't certain is the type I suggest.
