Sore Bump For Two Weeks, But No Puss Or Bursting?

Please - anyone - just looking for some input....

I developed the discomfort in the head of my penis - dismissed it as rambunctious sex with the misses, found the bump(s) two days later. So small that - if not for looking for the source of irritation, I'm not sure that I would've seen it/them at all. Most of the time it looks like one single bump, other times I think I see two.

I've had it for two weeks now, but no breaking open/oozing/scabbing etc. Doctor confirmed me visually. Wouldn't do a pcr swab, and blood tests were negative (I'm switching doctors). I've had some pretty intense flu symptoms - night sweats/achy/extreme fatigue.

The flu symptoms seem to be improving, slowly but steadily - energy level improving, etc., but the bump/bumps haven't changed - don't seem to be any better, but don't seem to be any worse, and no breaking open/oozing etc. After two weeks, I was hoping that the outbreak would be over or close to it.

If anyone has ANYTHING to offer, I would appreciate it.

The flu symptoms are usually the first sign of infection. How soon after the bumps did the flu appear?

Did you have an IgG or IGm blood test?

Demand a swab! If the doctor denies it, ask them to document that they are denying your request for care.

@nakedandafraid note that there is a lot of misinterpretation regarding flu like symptoms associated with an infection. 99% of the time, flu symtpoms are the flu.

Most people infected genitally do not experience much by the way of flu like symptoms, especially if they have an oral HSV-1 infection already.

If you had a primary infection, well there wouldn't be simply a single unambiguous bump.... it would be WTF is all this!

hey Blurne

Discomfort appeared on a Monday - a little over two weeks ago. Not sure if there were bumps present at the time. Discovered the bumps upon closer look the following day or two - don't remember exactly. Then scratchy throat/slight congestion on Thursday. More intense flu symptoms the following Mon/Tues/Wed

Had both IgG and IGm - IgG for 1 and 2 came back negative. IgM is listed as "pending". He told me he'd have those results to me in a few days.

When I asked him about the swab - he simply said "I don't think we have that here".

I'm just going to find another doctor. His knowledge seems to be limited to what I've read on WebMD.

I think I'm going to try an Infectious Disease doctor. Seems like they may have more knowledge that a GP?

How ya doin, Wil?

I can definitely see how so MANY of the symptoms can be misinterpreted, and there HAS been a nasty one going around in my area. Although I'm not immune, I rarely get anything other than a cold once a year - and RARELY in the summer. And I DO have the specific symptoms that so many seem to describe - aches/night sweats/some chills, extreme fatigue. And the bump/bumps ( sometimes it looks like one, sometimes it looks like two) have been sore for two weeks not - I believe if it was a dermatological issue, it surely would've cleared up by now, and I HAVE read of some having a single sore.

Yet I thought they would've burst open/scabbed over by now. Other than be sore - and sometimes seem to maybe change a bit in appearance, they have not burst open/emitted fluid/etc.

Would welcome feedback

@nakedandafraid  go anywhere you can ASAP to get the bump(s) PCR swabbed.  Do not hesitate.  You may never get another chance.

Anything anyone tells you on here will just be guess work at this point.  That swab is your best chance for peace of mind.

IgG and IgM both negative.

Can anyone offer any insight?

It means you don’t have herpes as of say 12 weeks ago to be safe.

Can you get a swab?

What sexual activity did you have in the week before the sores appeared?

My doctor has now referred me to a Dermatologist tomorrow. I am going to pressure him as much as possible to swab it. If not, I will try an infectious disease doctor. The fact that i have to beg these people for a simple test that is definitive is ridiculous.

Hi "Jeremy"..... I agree, the topic of your HSV status does not need to be something you disclose too soon in a developing relationship..... get to know each other first....see how it's going and as it progresses, then the HSV issue will naturally need to be revealed.... it's my personal opinion though that before there is any sexual encounter you ought to disclose your HSV status.... I know some will disagree with me on this but, I think it is morally wrong not to disclose first.  This can be a make/break situation for most people but, again, I feel it is simply wrong not to give the other person the whole story since your decision not to disclose could put their health at risk.... that is simply not an option in my opinion.  Looking back to my "pre-HSV" life I most certainly would want my partner to disclose their HSV+ status before intimacy so that I could make my decision as to whether I want to take that risk or not....

Thanks, CHT. I appreciate the feedback. The whole trauma of going through this has led me to figure out a lot about myself and my attachment wounds, so I'm taking courses to come out of this better. This girl really was my dream woman in so many ways, it's been the hardest heartbreak to deal with ever. I'm truly in a lot of pain, but using the pain as fuel to launch that new business and work with coaches. I also opened up to my family about HSV, so my parents and sister know now, and they were very loving and accepting of it. Since opening up about it, I feel way better around this thing. After opening up, I also found out that some mutual friends in our family have discordant couples who are married with children, so HSV hasn't stopped them from living a loving life. The thing is... all of these couples I mention did not disclose until 6-8 months into the relationship. So now I'm thinking it might be better not to disclose until I know things are very serious. I'll of course stay on the medication and use protection, but maybe this is a better route than disclosing upfront and scaring women off.

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.
