swab and igg test both negative however symptoms exactly like herpes?

Recommended Posts

Symptoms include tingling, exactly like herpes outbreaks. Have been having them for 3 years now.

Recently got a swab and IGG done, outbreak looked so much like herpes that my doctor prescribed me high dose famvir on the spot.

Recently just got results back saying both were negative. (this is on genitals)

There is no indication what else my condition could be from general tingling and itching to regular outbreaks. I've had 2 doctors peform visual diagnosis with very high certainty.

What should I do? I am at my wits end and me and my girlfriend do not know what to do in this situation.

This is tough @farnsworth. I feel in all circumstances you need to focus on the simplest, most rational explanation.

Note that if you are experiencing tingling and itching without an outbreak, those symptoms are more than likely due to another cause. Lesions from herpes are not unique as other conditions can produce near enough to identical lesions as herpes lesions.

The odds of a negative swab AND negative blood are really low. Visual diagnosis is not more than 75% accurate even for an expert who has seen thousands of cases.

It is more likely that your blisters contain just the blood serum and not suspending any virus. There are various causes for this that I would feel a dermatologist would be able to help with.

No, blood serum is the clear liquid component of your blood that holds the cells and other blood aspects. Numerous skin conditions result in the serum appearing on the skin as blisters, sometimes they also have red blood cells such that they are blood blisters.

Pritelivir study phase II updated a couple days ago (Sept 19) and holding steady at a March 2020 completion date. Based on all current findings this could effectively be a "functional cure" which could halt symptoms and cut transmission risk to near zero. Lets all continue to hope for good news here https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03073967

That’s good news mate. If only herpes lesions did that!

Great to see another candidate progress forward- hope to see a phase I kick off in 2020. Remember all it takes is 1 goal to succeed, the more shots on goal the better   Sounds like Dr. Friedman was alluding to this paper in his conversation with @mikeherp

You should refer this question back to the person whom provided you these numbers, you need to be sure.  Wilso can't tell you for sure. If you aren't sure, you need to seek further medical advice.
