Transmission to my 2 year old daughter? Help please!

I was diagnosed with genital hsv a few months ago and I have been doing fine with it lately. However, my daughter has folliculitis on her bottom! I've taken her to several doctors and they all say its folliculitis. So she has an antibiotic cream that I put on 3 times a day for 5 days and it clears OVER NIGHT. The issue is, it keeps coming back. I'm so confused and stressed. Her doctor today said that folliculitis can be caused by viruses too? I'm afraid to mention it to her doctor that I have hsv because I dont want them to look down on my daughter like they do me at times. Plus I've heard it can only be spread through direct contact with the genitals and obviously that's not happening. So can someone please give me a reason to calm down? Or some advise or something? I wish I could stop worrying about giving this virus to my perfect and happy baby girl. :(

also, no fever or anything crazy looking with the folliculitis, just some red bumps, no blisters. The doctors say it looks exactly like the typical folliculitis. Just wish I knew why and I wish I could calm down about thinking everything is herpes! Ughh

Honey don’t stress too much. When my boys were younger they had the same thing. I doubt it’s what you think it is. Believe me, I stress about giving it to my kids too. But it’s extremely unlikely. ❤️

You can only transmit via direct contact. She's fine

I know this is an older post. But I still wanted to comment in case new comers want to search it looking for answers too.

i was diagnosed with ghsv2 when I was 8 months pregnant. I had my daughter by c-section because I had two previous c-sections with my boys.  Here is my routine- I always use hand sanitizer before I change her diaper ( my husband does too) we make sure we scrub our hands after using the restroom.  I do not use any of my personal towels for her..she uses her own with her own wash clothes. We wash the sink out really well and and rinse it before we bathe her. I apply hand sanitizer or wash my hands before I bathe her. She is 15 months old and perfectly healthy, actually she has never been sick a day in her life!

apparently, I’ve had this virus for over 10 years without knowing it. My husband said that’s when his affair took place. I have two other children (7 year old and a 13 year old) neither has ever caught anything from us. Even sharing towels and wash clothes.

now I have changed my way of doing things just out of anxiety. And to be honest...you should wash your hands or use sanitizer before changing diapers anyway on a little girl...because just average bacteria on our hands can cause her to have a bacterial infection on her private. I was told that by a pediatrician Feb 2019.

your baby is fine. I COMPLETELY understand your anxiety and believe me when I say I am IN THE BOAT WITH YOU!!!  We do things sometimes that are not necessary just to calm our own fears. And that’s ok.

but there has to be genital to genital action with friction for someone to catch it. So your baby girl is ok.

just keep your hands washed after you potty.

only way your daughter at that age can have it is if you had a out break while giving birth this what drs told me before i had my son cause u have tell them when pregnant if u have hsv2 or not cause if u have a ob during labour they would need to give u c sec to stop it spreading to the child

Hey @Lcj987 and welcome to the website. You can be sure that isn't HSV-2, looks nothing like it. It is much more likely to be folliculitis or inflamed fordyce spots.

Hey @JackThrowAway herpes causes an outbreak where it enters the body first and maybe a progressive spread. If it doesn't cause an outbreak at the entry site then it won't cause one elsewhere, it also won't 'jump' upon infection - it would be more likely that the lesions are continuous from the penis to the anus. Nevertheless, testing trumps symptoms or any interpretation of symptoms. The correct conclusive result arises when: you have a positive swab; or An IgG HSV-2 level over 3.5 (Herpeselect test).

Slept with someone unprotected, roughly 2 weeks ago now. I felt generally unwell the couple of days after but I’d been drinking the whole weekend and didn’t have much sleep either of the days of that weekend so put it down to that. 6 days after I noticed these spots appear on the shaft of my penis. Along with symptoms of discomfort in my shaft in the couple of days prior to them appearing. No pain when urinating at all that I have noticed. They don’t hurt, itch or tingle and they don’t have fluid in from what I can see or feel if I squeeze them and have never burst? I went to a sexual health clinic to get checked up, they took bloods to do a full test and looked at the spots but said they saw nothing that concerned them but I’m not sure about that, any advice? The smaller spots under the shaft are just follicles I had diagnosed years ago and non-sti related.

She tested positive for HSV2. No, there was nothing of that sort in that area.   However I also have ulcerative colitis so I’m on medication that makes me immunosuppressed. I have been bleeding a bit when I pass stools during the time of redness, so I’m unsure if I’m getting a flare from the colitis (from all the stress of everything) or if it’s due to the virus making it’s way to an already inflamed area and popping up as blisters that I can’t see and hence the bleeding.    I had two equivocal results (at 4 weeks and 6 weeks) that then went to a positive result (7 weeks after exposure). Combine that with some flu symptoms, redness, tingling etc. makes me feel it’s conclusive that this points to a hsv2 infection.
