Possible HSV 2 Diagnosis. Very sad.

Hi everyone,

I went to the doctor today and got swabbed for an ulceration I have on the outside of my vagina. The doctor thinks it could be HSV 2 but I won't know the results for another two to five days. I'm very distraught and feel like life itself is over. I know it's not but I cant help but feel that way. I've attached photos below and want to know if any of you have experienced HSV 2 that looks similar to this. I was prescribed an antiviral medication so I feel certain that this is genital herpes. However, the uncertainty is killing me and not knowing has me feeling the dark. Any feedback or advice is much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

As any ulceration there is suspect but that's nothing from what I've seen in people with pos swabs. It could very well be bacteria or something else. It's easier said than done but try to relax until you get the results. Was there any sex days or weeks prior to this showing up?

Yes there was sex prior to this (probably a week ago), and it was unprotected. Thank you so much for the feedback! I will try to relax

Just an update: Everything came back negative. It appears to be a severe yeast infection.

There is nothing to argue with on the basis of pictures or what one might think. The PCR test is a billion times more authoritative than a guess based on visual.

You’ve seen my pics, you weren’t able to argue they weren’t herp

@Ole that is not so good and makes it imperative to identify what is going on. Hopefully you can obtain the type specific test. Keep an open mind for other possible causes too.

I would have to disagree with you on this. I have HSV2 on my mouth and I get outbreaks often. The person who gave it to me also had oral HSV2 and would have outbreaks every couple weeks. Also this Squarex newspost cites the prevalence of oral HSV2. They did not cite any primary literature but it sounds about right.  https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/squarex-announces-positive-results-from-completed-phase-2-study-of-sqx770-in-the-prevention-of-recurrent-herpes-labialis-300896065.html "Herpes labialis is a common condition characterized by blisters or erosions on the lips and skin around the mouth and nose. Most cases are caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), but 10-15% of cases are caused by HSV-2 with this percentage reportedly increasing. "
