Is it possible to have symptoms but not have any lesions or sores?

For me it started with lymph node pain within 12 hours of potential exposure.  Then intense burning throughout my groin region.  My skin would also vibrate in that region.  Feels like the chills.  Then a couple days later I got flu-like symptoms.  They weren't too severe but definitely bothersome.  That lasted about two days.  Now I still have the vibrating skin, lymph node pain and a general feeling of being unwell.

It's been three weeks and I didn't get any lesions or blisters.  I'm feeling better but I still feel like something's off.  I went to the doctor and she told me I could still have herpes even though I don't have any visible blisters.  I got tested and will find out my results in a few days.

In the meantime, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like mine?  Did it end up being herpes or something else?

Just be aware that you should wait for at least 3 months to get an accurate reading; and take the igG test.

Thank you cas9 for your reply.  What were your initial symptoms?

Blisters on my penis and nerve pain. The nerve pain was in the boxer short area and included the heal of my left foot; enough to make me limp. The nerve pain is what I would describe as a sore skin sensation; sort of like a bad sunburn; sore and achy.

Subsequently, I've had many nerve pain episodes over the years but much milder; some with actual OBs and some without any visible sores, albeit it's possible there are tiny sores there that are hard to see without very close observation or magnification. Note that sores do not always result in blisters

Getting symptoms 12 hours after exposure is not likely herpes.

herpes generally takes 4 days, but at least 2 days to before symptoms begin.

did you do anything abnormal to clean the area?

Thanks for your reply Scooby.  I hope you're right.

No, I didn't do anything abnormal to clean the area.

What were your first symptoms?

I agree. Seems to be too fast for herpes but who knows... You should get tested

G HSV can be atypical but I repeat myself and Scooby, 12 hours to get symptoms of an infection, it's weird...

I got tested.  I find out tomorrow.

Sending positive vibes your way.  Based on what you wrote...I suspect you get the all clear from your Doc.

Thank you to everyone who responded.  I got my test results back and I was negative for both types of herpes.

Hey can you elaborate on the never pain you get. I gues for me the thing is I get sharp tingling feelings in foot or toes or but momentarily but not constant enough to result in limping. Also haven’t gotten any blisters or OB. Exposure was about 14 days ago via lady rubbing saliva on my genitals. Docs say not herpes but just not feeling right still. any thoughts

I don't think I can elaborate any more than I did regarding the nerve pain. No, I don't get sharp tingling feelings.

Awesome. If all goes well when might this realistically be available for purchase?

Dude, you just got severely censured by Mods for denying the link between HSV and HIV and spreading dangerous misinformation.  This isn't the right time to begin spouting off your crackpot theories again.

I have no real idea why it says positive, something to do with the IgM - I’m not sure. I chose my words carefully though, this does show you do not have genital herpes. Why? Because HSV-2 testing is very accurate especially for recent infections. So is HSV-1. However HSV-1 can produce flaky results if you’ve had the virus a long time. If this is you then you may have an oral HSV-1 infection from childhood.

Hey Wilson! Thank for responding yet again to me! What are your thoughts on the line that says ‘Herpes Simplex Virus 1     Positive’?? this doesn’t state IgG - it just says I’m positive for HSV1?
    • WilsoInAus
Hey @Roxanne11 those results are quite clear for IgG. Being negative you can be highly confident you do not have either type genitally.
