Don't forget there are two promising vaccines on the prophylactic front (but only pre-clinical): The Trivalent vaccine worked well on guinea pigs:  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32347775/ The Einstein (Xvax) vaccine also has a ways to go: https://x-vax.com/ The fact HSV529 is in yet another clinical trial is good news for herpsters.

thank you for the info. I am uncircumcised. I applied some clotrimazole cream during the last outbreak I noticed, which seem to do the trick (around a month ago). But now, there new dots are appearing at a different location on the glans. Wasnt sure if balanitis can come back so soon or if it could be something else.

Looks like mild balanitis. If you are uncircumcised then thats normal every now and then due to accumulation of yeast and the irritation of the foreskin

I think the simple reason is that this is a fund raiser that was started by our community rather than by Fred Hutch.  Or rather, FHC started it in response to our request.   I still think they should somehow feature it in their pages.  But anyway, that's just how they do it. Keep in mind that FHC's main focus is curing cancer.  It's a cancer research institute.  They might feel that putting stuff on their website that isn't directly related to cancer might give people the impression, especially cancer cure donors (who are by far the main donors to FHC), that FHC is losing its focus. So we have to work within these limits.   However, I do draw strength from the fact that FHC has tried to help us with the fund raiser.  Among others: 1.  When the new research paper is released, FHC has gotten an agreement with a prominent sexual health blogger, to promote the research and the fund raiser. 2.  There is another potential promotion in the works that might get back on track if the US is able to get the coronavirus under control. So FHC has actively helped us to promote the fund raiser.

Unexpected Success with DIY Topical Treatments (ACV, Monolaurin, Activated Charcoal) - Could this really work?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

It's been a while. Most of you have read about my non-stop outbreaks that I've been unable to get rid of. After I saw some news about activated charcoal / acyclovir working against herpes on the news I got interested, and started making some experiments at home. They seemed to work and I'm amazed, however it seems too good to be true, so I'm also doubtful if these are what really caused improvements. I'll let you guys discuss, maybe some with more qualified scientific/medical opinions.

FYI I have tested positive for HSV-2 twice via blood test and once by swab. Someone commented a while ago about my unusual non-response to antivirals, so I decided to stop them completely. Bad mistake! I got the worst outbreak of the year. On top of the continuous little blisters on my penis, I got a big one on my buttock and my groin lymph node swell into the size of a pea that I could see moving under the skin. Painful and terrible! So it seems that I do somewhat react to antivirals, but my body doesn't identify the constant mild outbreak as sufficient to trigger an immune response.

Here are some photos of the OB I got after quitting ACV:

Anyways lets get to the point:

Topical treatment experiments for HSV 2:

Test 1: For my first test I mixed one 800mg tablet of Acyclovir, 3000mg of Monolaurin with Bepanthen Salve cream. I melted it into a paste in a glass surrounded by hot water. I applied this to my penis that had a current outbreak and left it there overnight. The next morning, the skin on my penis was very sensitive and red. During the next days, the blisters disappeared but the skin looked a little rough. After maybe 2 days, the skin started shedding off like a snake shedding it's skin (wtf?). Anyways, the blisters had gone and I saw some improvement with the flu-like feeling / lethargy disappearing. Maybe 4-5 days later the OB came back.

I tried this again and the exact same thing happened. Anyways, the skin shedding looked like a yeast infection, so I stopped it after a while.

Test 2: For the second try, I mixed a 800mg tablet of Acyclovir, 3000mg of Monolaurin, 5 grams of Activated Charcoal with Bepanthen Wound Healing Cream (more liquid). I melted it again with hot water and this time it turned into a smooth black cream. I've been applying this on my penis when the outbreak appears and it seems to get rid of it. It seems I only get the skin shedding issue if I use it too much/too often/too long at a time. Really odd.. I also started getting an outbreak around my anus, so I've applied it there too with success.

I stopped this for a week to see if my OB came back and it did, along with lethargy and flu-like feeling. Applied the cream again and it's gone. Can this be real?

During the past 4 weeks I've started feeling signicantly better, doing outdoor activities, training hard, working hard and feeling normal. I'm amazed. Whatever has caused this improvement, I'm not sure, but whatever it is I'm so happy about it.

Now let's get to the scienfific talk. I'm very sceptical and I don't even believe this could work since I see no response to oral Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, Famcyclovir or Amenalief. Below I have listed my own theories that could explain this. Take these with a gain of salt, as they are just my own broscientific assumptions.

  1. It's all a coinsidence: this is the first thing that comes to mind, but I can't find any other explanation. I haven't really changed anything. I started eating 6000mg of Monolaurin 1 month ago, but didn't see any improvements from that. I started working out in the mornings instead of the evenings. I changed my Testosterone medication from Enanthate to Cypionate. Maybe my body just decided it's enough?
  2. Monolaurin is killing the viruses: Monolaurin has been shown to kill viruses in a petri-dish, but not proven to work orally. If it absobs through the skin and gets in touch with the virus directly, could it work?
  3. Acyclovir works better topically: Could it be that for some reason my body is not making enough of acyclovir bioavailable after processing it through the digestive system, and works better through the skin? hard to believe, since it's well known oral antivirals work better for genital herpes.
  4. I caused myself an infection:  Could it be that using these substances to irritate my skin, I caused an infection (yeast infection?) and as a result, my immune system got triggered and got rid of the Herpes as a result?
  5. My symptoms are not caused by Herpes: What if I have Herpes but the symptoms on my penis and anus are caused by something completely different, that is successfully treated by these topicals? I have been to various doctors and hospitals who've never confirmed any other conditions, but lets not rule this option out.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think. I have no idea how this is possible and don't even believe in this myself after all the time I've spent trying different cures for my symptoms. I just can't find any other viable reason what could explain my improved condition. I will keep doing this and let you guys know if the correlation remains between the OBs and using this cream.

I started exercising again this week and just laying in bed now with that horrible depressed flu like feeling, though I do not have a sweaty fever.  I did take only one tylenol, lots of nac, and an extra drop of t3.  The t3 is helping.  It just sucks that when i push myself, be it exercise or work i get the fatigue/flu crap.  Unfortunately my ulcer/blister crap is at back of mouth on soft pallet so i cant try your salve.  I’m just grateful it’s not on my lips where people could see it as it is constant.  Never goes away completely.  Glad you found something that helps.  I am going to get some charcoal tablets and see what happens.

Ahhh that’s all sounding like herpangina! A perfect fit to the symptoms you describe.

I was diagnosed with hsv-2.  Not herpangina.

You have never tested positive for HSV-2. You seem to have had an array of incompetent doctors looking at the wrong things. HSV-2 has never been identified in the soft palate.

My shit looks exactly like herpes, nothing like herpangina.

A lesion is a lesion is a lesion!

HSV-2 does not cause lesions on the soft palate.

Please shut the fuck up.  Hsv-2 loves mucous membranes of any type.  Now you are just showing how stupid you are.

Whatever the fuck you call it, its at back of my mouth.  It’s been identified by specialists doctors as herpes and by bloodwork.  You are such a fucktard loser.

No it hasn't been swabbed.

It's time to go, you have been debunked. The lies, the deceit are not welcome.

Good by and I hope you work out what is going on for you... sounds like herpangina!

It looks nothing like herpangina.  I saw three specialists at best hospitals in Thailand.  They all saw herpes.  I can see it with my own fucking eyes.  Herpes.  My tongue is on fire.  Herpes.  I take extra valtrex, i get relief.  Without valtrex i would be soaking my sheets in sweat right now.  Bloodwork in Canada, herpes diagnoses.  I am really sick of your trolling.  Get a life.

And we are sick of YOUR trolling. You have NEVER swabbed positive. You have NEVER tested positive for HSV-2.

Don't you get it? You have been exposed. You clearly suffer from Munchausens.

Our readers deserve much better. Hence you will always be called out. If you can't face the facts, at least others might stand a chance.

I am seriously sick with the worst hsv-2 infection ever.  The doctor that did my blood test said it was unusually bad case of it.  My current online doctor in LA has advised me to see an infectious disease expert and try to get more help, so maybe there is something else going on, but there is no question that I have hsv-2 in my mouth and it is making me feel sick as fuck right now.  All i have to do to trigger it is exercise.  It’s a nightmare.

You are not reading my comments correctly, the facts are:

You have NEVER swabbed positive for HSV 1/2.

You have NEVER tested positive for HSV-2.

HSV-2 DOES NOT cause lesions in the soft palate.

Simples.

I saw three very talented specialists doctors in thailand, all said it was herpes.  My gp in Canada looked in the mouth, ordered bloodwork, diagnosis, herpes.  The only thing simple here is you.  You are not a doctor.  I dont know if that part of my mouth is soft palate, i just looked at pic of mouth diagram and that’s where it looks to be located, but i am not a doctor, and neither are you, so stfu.

Has anyone tried this? I would recommend someone to give it a try if you have recurrent outbreaks as I still believe this might be working. During the past months I've successfully managed to clear/minimize outbreaks again and again with this.

It would be good if someone else can try - can't really do any harm. Just to see if I'm onto something or it's just a coinsidence :D

Topical acyclovir is not recommended for genitals as I heard it could cause hsv to develop resistance. Monolaurin topical or coconut oil, if it works for you great.
