Different strains of HSV2?

Recommended Posts

FMLLFM

I have had ASYMPTOMATIC HSV2 for years.  My girlfriend of recent days has revealed that she is also HSV2 positive but she DOES get the outbreaks. If we were to have unprotected sex, could I now contract a different strain? Or is it just ONE strain of HSV2, and our bodies just react to it differently? I don't want to reject her, but I also don't want to become symptomatic... Unsure how to handle this delicate issue.  Thank you.

Hey @FMLLFM was your initial swab typed? Did you confirm it was HSV-2?

If you have HSV-2 you are not likely to obtain another strain. Even if you did, it is not likely your experience would be any different to what it is today. It is hour immune system that determines the experience more so than any virus ‘varietals’.

You are concordant, great position to be in!

Yes, they confirmed it with the HerpesVirus test they do a blood draw for. I even had it drawn twice.

Yeah, other forums had said similar things.  My experience shouldn't be altered by her experience apparently.  So I am feeling a little more comfortable with being intimate.  She already thinks I'm rejecting her by my body language and "holding back". Maybe I'm overthinking it.

I'm under the impression that 2 is 2 and 1 is 1, it's how our bodies handle it....you could be asymptomatic, give it to someone else and ruin their life...it's not the virus it's the person...as far as I know...I'd be interested to know if there are different version of HSV2...
