Recent Low Positive IGG Test

I’ve been diagnosed with hsv1 and have had some cold sores on the inside of my lips.

I’ve been diagnosed for some time with that. But around July 2020 I went in for an std panel and to my surprise my hsv2 IGG levels were equivocal.

My doctor at the time told me that I indefinitely had hsv2 although I’ve never had any symptoms.

This began a whole craze. I switched doctors and ordered another hsv2 test that also came back equivocal and was told that what the first doctor said was correct, that I do in fact have hsv2.

The fact that I wasn’t testing positive and none of my past sexual partners tested positive led me to think I should keep getting tested to confirm whether I do or don’t have it.

So I went for the third test and it was .72 IGG which would be a negative. (Around July 2020 as well)

I was still a little confused so I went for another a couple months later in October 2020, this hsv2 test was .89 IGG which is right under equivocal but still negative.

So armed with this data I went to a private doctor that I paid out of pocket for because I began to think that the Medicaid doctors might be wrong and maybe underpaid or whatever I dunno it just didn’t make sense. So I went to the private doctor and at the time I had what seemed to be like a small ingrown hair and I showed them and showed them my data. They said based off the ingrown hair that it was just an ingrown hair, and that the lab results were correct and that I had no hsv2 and that the prior doctors were wrong. The doctor said I should’ve never been tested because I never had any symptoms prior to that small ingrown hair.

So this made me happy but also made me lose faith in our healthcare system.

But just recently I went back for my 10 panel and on 6/9/2021 my hsv2 results were 1.11 IGG which indicates I am positive. This is driving me crazy and on a side note I noticed that my hsv1 IGG levels were both gradually going up as the hsv2 was creeping up. I dunno if there’s any correlation there but it’s just something I went back to look at out of curiosity because I do know I’m hsv1 positive.

At this point I just want to know if I am in fact hsv2 positive, what should I do? I want to get the western blot test because it’s supposedly the golden standard.

1.11 on the IgG test is still really low and could easily be a cross-reaction with the antibodies you have for HSV1..... based on all your data, it sure does not seem as though you have HSV2.... I'd relax and go with that....

Thanks for responding CHT. Appreciate you.

I scheduled a virtual appointment today with west over heights and I may be getting a western blot to be sure.

I don’t want to risk exposing somebody to hsv2

Just a quick update on how my virtual appointment just went with the nurse practitioner from west over heights.

I basically told them the same thing I stated in this post.

they told me based off of my testing history they would say I am most likely not positive because my test results keep hovering at low positive. They said it was irresponsible for both doctors to diagnose me as positive over equivocal results.

so she asked me when my last sexual encounter happened and I told her. It was may 9-15 week maybe may 12. It was protected sex, and she told me to wait another 6 weeks and get the IGG test done again in august. she said if it comes up negative I am negative and that if it pops up low positive again, that we will do the western blot test to confirm whether or not I am positive.

I won’t be having any sex until I get my results in august

she did say I could have oral sex or masturbate with my partner in the meantime but that I shouldnt have any sex because it’ll just keep pushing the window forward for the IGG testing.

good news for sure.  That level is just too low to come close to making a declaration of HSV2..... something tells me your results in 6 weeks will confirm this.... getting the Western Blot will also put the final stamp on things too but, hopefully you won't even need that one.  Good luck.... let us know results later.... relax in the knowledge it is almost certain you don't have HSV2.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us

To give everyone confidence that it wasn’t herpes related and conclude as the doctor did that it was a dermatitis issue to refer back to the dermatologist to continue with investigations.
