Help !!! Herpes or friction burn ??

Recommended Posts

So I’ve recently recovered from frenulum surgery on my penis. I was masterbating on Friday night and felt really dry. Decided to use lube (I’m uncircumcised) after finishing I wiped up and went to bed. Didn’t do a thorough clean.. the next day I notice some irritation on the left side of my penis. No pain but small friction like sores with a tiny amount of blood (only after I dried it with some toilet paper) I freaked out at first but calmed myself down and brushed it off as the redness went away. Later that night Saturday I started to masterbate again before deciding I didn’t want to. I used the lube that time as well. The next day that area was even more inflamed and so then I really panicked. Monday morning the inflammation was gone and I couldn’t see any type of sore or anything. I had no pain or any physical irritation.  Brushed it off as me being too rough and having some reaction to the lube. Tuesday night comes around and I get extremely  drunk with some friends and end up having sex with this girl. I used a condom but kept having whiskey dick i eventually gave up after about 15 min of trying.  Now today is Wednesday and I woke up with some more friction burn like sores (not bleeding) and a red ring around my head in the exact area where the sores are. Now I’m wondering if I’m experiencing a breakout (been tested multiple times in the past and always have been negative) or I’ve just been too rough with my penis.

Hey Anon503..... sounds more like friction issues but without actually seeing what you refer to as "sores" hard to say with certainty that it is not something else going on down there (including possible herpes).... are the sores open or liquid filled?  Do they scab over during healing?  Have you had unprotected sex in recent past?  Have you fully healed from your surgery?  If not, is it possible you agitated areas that were still healing? When was your last test for HSV?  If you have sores and want some peace of mind, have the sores swabbed by a doctor and/or ask for a IgG blood test specific for HSV1 and HSV2..... good luck.

I have been fully healed from my surgery  but it's also given access to pull back more and is probably taking a little more damage than what it's used to. I have had unprotected sex in the past and the last time I got tested for HSV was in the spring. since then I have had unprotected sex with one person and then unprotected oral with 3. These sores were flat and mishaped and opened. But there was no crusting over and the redness and sores look like they're almost completely gone or getting close to even though it has just been a day. All of this is under my foreskin on the skin under my head. I can see a red ring  around my penis that I assume is from the condom faceted around trying to come off as I had whisky dick. today some of the sores looked a little spaced out today. Is it possible for a break out to occur on one side clear up and then immediately occur on the other ? Im getting tested on tuesday but nervous that might be too late.

it is possible to get sores on one side then they clear then another outbreak occurs in another area of your penis..... how fast are these sores healing?  a couple of days?  longer?   The picture you have on your profile is tough to say with certainty it's herpes.... it has some of the characteristics of a herpes sore but, just not certain.  If you have a test set for Tuesday are you getting an IgG blood antibody test specific for HSV1 and HSV2?  If there are sores at that time, see if they can swab them and run the viral culture PCR test....

They cleared in around 2-3 days each time. The first I noticed was Saturday and it was cleared by Monday night and the second time was Wednesday and it was cleared by Saturday. Today I was rubbing the area trying to clean some smegma that built up and noticed a small looking flat sore. It’s already looks completely healed.. I’m going to get a swab test. I’ve already gotten blood tests and have come back negative. I’m too scared to get another blood test.. I’m going to get a pcr test…

Ask for a swab PCR test but, remember that if there isn't enough fluid there to swab, or if the sore is already in the healing stage, the test could come back as non-conclusive.... when was your last blood test?  Was it specific to HSV1 and 2 (IgG antibody test)?

I showed the doctor pictures and the timeline and she said she was confident it wasn’t herpes. The last blood test I had for herpes was two years ago but both were negative and it was an LgG antibody test. I got swabbed for herpes this spring amd the results were negative. I just had friction bumps then.. the doctor said I didn’t need a swab test and only ordered me to get a urine test. .. since Tuesday the sores came back but then have already started to disappear.. I had sex with a condom Wednesday and Thursday night.. I think I might have a yeast infection…

glad you talked to your doctor..... if she believes it's not herpes related then I won't argue with that.... plus if your tests show no HSV then you must be dealing with something more like friction sores or perhaps a different dermal issue.... hopefully you can get that under control and clear up any sores quickly.  best of luck

Welp… went looking deeper and turned out to be GHSV1…  got swabbed and everything . pretty bummed but have tried to come to peace with it. Only thing is I keep getting reoccurring OB even after taking valtrex. I’m confused because I thought HSV1 was supposed to not be active down there

so, you tested positive for GHSV1 via the swab test?  Not by an IgG antibody blood test? Are the OBs severe?  Are they coming often?

GHSV1 in its initial stages (early infection) can cause outbreaks.... the good news is that your odds of outbreaks is significantly lower than those with HSV2 and the number of outbreaks are also much less with GHSV1 than HSV2 especially as time goes on.... on average you may see only one outbreak per year versus 4 to 5 for those with HSV2.... the severity of the outbreaks from GHSV1 are also milder than HSV2 (you may not even notice them with time or go completely asymptomatic).  You may not even need antivirals as time goes on.

Well looks like I’m one of the small fucked percentages of people who get constant HSV1 OB cause I’ve had one off and on since September 10 now.. goes away and comes back in a couple days. Starting to get pretty depressed on the whole issue

Hey "Anon503".... sorry to hear that the results indicate GHSV1.... Are you taking antivirals (Valacyclovir, Famvir, Acyclovir) to control the outbreaks?  If not, I'm sure your doctor would prescribe for you if the OBs are frequent.... please try not to let it get you too down (I know, easy for me to say, but not so easy to do).... the stress only makes outbreaks that much harder to control.... with time, the OBs become less frequent and less severe.... trust me on this.  And again, the one thing in your favor is that HSV1 in the genital tract is sort of "out of it's territory" it can occur in this area but, all the data show it is less likely to be a long-term problem versus if it were oral HSV1.... Also, are you staying away from foods that can trigger an outbreak (nuts/seeds of all sorts, chocolate, large amounts of caffeine)?  Again, try to keep it all in perspective, I know it sucks, but it gets much easier with time and you will learn not to stress over it nearly as much as in these early days after contracting it.... let me know if you have any questions/concerns.... I'll do my best to answer them.... take care for now.

Hello, I found this website when trying to figure out if a rash I have is herpes or not.
The reason herpes came to mind is that my boyfriend got "diagnosed" with genital herpes last summer. The reason I put it in quotation marks is that there was no swab taken. He described a mild rash to a nurse who ensured him it was herpes, and didn't even want to take a look at his genitals. He convinced her to look and she took a quick glance and said again that it was "hsv type 2." So just a very unprofessional response, based on little evidence. She gave him a short course of antiviral and that rash quickly disappeared for him and he has never had another outbreak.

I found that I had a rash on my mons pubis early yesterday. I wanted to ask here for your opinion because this board seems very friendly and ready to help. And I'm calling my GP tomorrow to try and get an appointment but because of Corona they have been more busy than usual, so I'm worried I might not get an appointment while I have the rash.

I'm 26 and this would be my first herpes outbreak if this is herpes. I've never had symptomatic cold sores that I know of. At first I thought it definitely herpes, because of my boyfriend's "diagnosis" but after looking through photos and reading more about herpes I became more unsure. During a shower I cut my pubic hair to see the rash better. It was all red and spread over the area pictured.  It was sore and burning before the shower and after, but I had been scratching before, and cutting the hair during the shower. and But then in the late evening it had "scaled" over and looked quite frankly like seborrheic dermatitis, with no itching. I have dealt with that condition in my scalp and face for a couple of years but had never experienced in my genital area. In my scalp and face it often itches a lot if I have not showered for a couple of days (i have clinical depression) and then burns after the shower.

Here is a picture of the rash with "scales" on my mons pubis. This is probably around an inch in length. This picture is taken about 24 hours after I noticed the rash. Then it was much redder and burning.

Picture of several stages of seborrheic dermatitis from the internet. It can be quite painful.

I really, really want to hear the opinion of you the knowledgeable people of Honeycomb, just in case I won't be able to see a doctor while I have the rash.

I had unprotected sex November 16th 2019. I tested positive for HSV2 on December 10th >5 (igg) , retested December 14 and now stated >13.80 (igg quest).
Today is December 16th and I have yet to have any symptoms or lesions anywhere. HOWEVER, a Week later after exposure I had a sore throat to where drinking and swallowing was very painful for about a week.
I know she Has HSV2 because she told me (deceivingly too late) and I understand HSV2 is rare in the throat but could this be my case? I hope so. No initial OB on my genitals in 30 days since exposure with no medications.

p.s I still take no medication.

Ive have GHSV1 for two years and have not experienced an OB since my first initial one.. except for now i think. I was very stressed and worrisome, which caused me to get itchy down there, and now everytime i wipe i feel like there are blisters, but when i look there are none! im so confused and not sure if its just my mind trying to trick me, but i can sometimes feel them when i am sitting down, it feels like pins and needles.. has anyone else experienced this?? i dont know what to do! im trying to not think about it and 'think' my way out of this outbreak

      Hey folks.

I posted here last week, I didn't include a picture so here it is. Also my previous post if no one saw it. Does it look like herpes to you?
      -----
Hey guys and girls. Anyone any advice for me? I feel at a loss. I haven't been properly diagnosed, only a visual diagnosis. On Friday night I was with my fella, we've been seeing each other for 5 months and always used a condom. Everything was fine, then Saturday I felt a little nippy down below. Sunday came and I decided to have a look down there. I was horrified at what I saw. In the entrance of my vagina was a rather large white patch,it looked like a hole, filled with white stuff. After that it got really painful to pee, very painful to walk and even sit down. I told him it looks like herpes, as I googled it.
So that night I took a bath, and had another look after my bath. The white stuff had gone, and honest to God all i could see was a bright red looking hole. So this morning I went to my local clinic, and had a nurse take a look. she said it does look like herpes, it could be herpes, but it may not be. She tried to take a swab but the pain was that bad that everytime she touched it you had to peal me off the ceiling so she had to give up, gave me anti viral medication and an ointment to apply and I've to go back next week. I've had my suspicions for a while now as my ex had coldsores, and after a night with him I started to feel funny down there. This was a year and a half ago. Eventually I got diagnosed with vulvodynia, which I'm now thinking it may have been herpes all along.
I don't know what to do. Feel disgusting. My boyfriend says if we'd never break up over it, but I'm an over thinker and I'm thinking the worst. I only done 2 things different last week, I used a hair removal cream, and used a different condom to the ones we had been using. Racking my brain trying to think of what else it could be, but honestly I do believe it's genital herpes and I'm gutted. It's the worse physical pain I've ever been in, peeing is the worst.

Recently had my first big outbreak (I had a scare of what I thought could have been one last month but even though I got swabbed asap tested it came back negative). After about a week into the outbreak on my genitals I then had an oral outbreak (never had a cold sore before at least to my awareness). While I am on antivirals (taken the day the cold sore showed and the genitals have started clearing this oral one just seems to be getting worse. The nurse said it was likely HSV-2 but I am still waiting for my results. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to cope with this oral outbreak? I am currently staying at my boyfriends' house and am worried it will travel from inner lip/mouth to be more visible, the idea of his parents seeing it fills me with dread.
Also, any good websites/blogs/youtubers to follow to give me a little more hope to this all.

Hey @Fernie hope you are going well. The doctor is spot on here. Many people with HSV-1 end up with slightly elevated results for HSV-2 that does not indicate infection with HSV-2. This persists from test to test for some people. The Westernblot would be useful to you, but will just confirm what is being said to you. Most people actually with HSV-2 test above 3.5 on those sorts of tests.

Just got off the phone with a doctor and they said based off the history of my tests, it’s most likely a false positive.    they also said that because I have hsv1 that that could be causing the false positive
    • ChattyB
How do you know you have hsv-2 orally.  I read that having hsv-2 orally is highly unlikely.

I’m so confused and don’t know what to do.    Sorry for posting here so much but I’m just lost.   I’ve tested normal on these dates 7/14/2020 0.72 IGG , 10/28/2020 0.89 IGG.    Then I tested low positive 6/6/2021 1.11 IGG.    I went back after that test to confirm the abnormal results on 7/29/2021 0.78 IGG were the results which led me to believe that the first abnormal results were just wrong.    Fast forward to now I just got my results back this morning from 11/27/2021 1.17 IGG, were the results. I’m just so confused, don’t know what to do. I’m going to have a consultation over the phone with a physician today and I also reached out to Terri from Westover Heights.    At this point I’m considering a western blot and I’m so paranoid I also signed up for another full panel std testing. I’m just so confused and stressed out.  Hope my buddy @WilsoInAus sees this
