GHSV 1&2 confirmed, tingling in lips common?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with G Hsv 1&2 via swab. I’ve never had an oral outbreak but have frequent tingling in my lips/mouth before and during an outbreak. Is this normal? I’ve talked to the nurse at my dr office and she said I have it orally (or assume I do) since I tested positive for HSV1. It was a genital swab and I’ve never been tested orally so I don’t  think that’s accurate. I’m on Valtrex daily for suppression so I don’t get actual outbreaks- only prodrome symptoms that last about 3-7 days. I’m starting to get back into the dating scene and want to know if I should assume I have it orally too. Want to take the proper precautions and disclose accurate info. Please help.

Hey @Star5588 note that it is not likely that you were diagnosed with both types genitally. I suggest you had a culture swab test that identifies HSV 1/2, which is the design of the test and it often stops there. A culture swab needs additional testing to ascertain which of the two types it is.

Hence I suggest you need to obtain an IgG blood test type specific for HSV-1 and HSV-2 to check which types you do have. That will then give you all you need for disclosure purposes.

A general tingling around the lips and mouth is not a sign of herpes.

HSV-1 orally is very common and typically obtained in your youth, that is, it is something you could have (or not have) independently of your genital infection.

Thanks for your reply. I’m quite certain I have both. I had both cultures and lab work done. Cultures showed both types. I confirmed with my provider twice because I knew it was rare that I could have both. These were my lab results.  I think it was too early for type 2 to show up on IgG because it hadn’t been 12 weeks yet

Thanks for that, it isn't really feasible to have both types identified. Cultures are notorious for errors in that regard compared to PCR.

Certainly get the 12 week test to see where you are. with HSV-2.

I'd suggest you do have HSV-1 orally and from your childhood.

Hang on @tweetsoc this is just self-indulgent self-delusion. What is super tricky about HSV? You're only saying that because of the super trick situation you are in having cheated on your partner, stop deflecting, how does that help anyone least of all yourself? You do not know you are going through an issue with HSV; it is pretty much certain you are not.

The first article is from 'The Sun' which is just a sensationalist rag. The second article deals with a correlation between HSV-2 and cardiovascular issues that may cause ED. Did you actually read it? NONE of the participants experienced ED at the time of infection and 0.5% self reported EDS after 12 months. How does that fit with your 9 days. Herpes infections do not cause orchitis, that's just a myth that is started and perpetuated by people on web forums. There is no medical evidence of this. It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with me on HSV. There is no subjectivity in the facts that I present.

None of this changes the fact that: you cheated on your partner and you can't cope with that; and you do NOT have genital HSV. Yes I do have to lecture about messing up because you are not dealing with it. You are creating a world of confusion from fake and/or obscure accounts of HSV in order to not deal with it. Whether you consider it nasty or not is exactly the point - this is the key thing that is wrong with you - when are you going to address - man up! Who has tested years later despite a negative WB?

Thanks tweetsoc,  I haven't taken anything but ibuprofen. My doctor won't give me anything without the lab work. I get tested on the 17th and if negative again 4 weeks after that  I will look into prostatitis and definitely ask him about it. Best of luck to you. I hope you get some relief. Are your symptoms constant or do they come and go? It's strange how the brain works. Sometimes this drives me crazy and sometimes I have just got used to the feeling of hot sauce in my pants. good luck to you.
