Freaking out, Please Help!

Ever since my doc told me I have H, due to my IGM coming back "Detected", I've been having some leg ache symptoms.

Even though I question the test because I've read that IGM tests are not reliable, the test was done about 14 weeks post exposure, and the IGG's were negative...I'm still freaking out.

I did have some leg ache sensation in early Jan, but they stopped when I got my first test results (IGM and IGG negative). Regardless, I continued the supplement regime.

Since Jan 6 (right before my first test which came back IGM and IGG Negative), I've been taking 2000 mg's of Lysine, garlic, echinechea with golden seal, multivitamin, and vitamin C daily. For the past several days, I've upped the Lysine to 3000mg's/day. I've also been injesting lots of water like Pilot recommended.

Plus, I'm on my third day of Valtrex and I still have this mild ache in my calf muscles. It doesn't hurt or tingle, but they feel mildly tired for some reason.

Can someone please help? Nothing seems to be working, I'm frustrated, confused, and depressed.

My question exactly, ever had an outbreak? Definate exposure? Even if you were exposed, it doesn't mean you got it - if the only symptom you have is aches - I agree, go to the gym.... get some fresh air... have a huge glass of wine....relax.

You will kill yourself with worry.

If you have had outbreaks on the other hand....

go to the gym.... get some fresh air... have a huge glass of wine....relax. Nothin you can do but live with it - so start now.

Good luck finding that peace of mind....

(had to edit that - issues with cut & paste.... )

Ok, I'm lining up in the RELAX camp here.

You've never had an outbreak, but you are taking Valtrex? WHY?

Why pump chemicals into your body you may not need?

Ever since my doc told me I have H, due to my IGM coming back "Detected", I've been having some leg ache symptoms.

Read what you wrote... "Ever since your doc told you"

Think about it? Isn't it just a huge coincidence that you didn't notice any leg ache symptoms until your doctor told you that you had H?

Echoing Faith and Rich... Relax... Get some regular exercise... drink a beer.... smile....

Pilot,.... <shaking head>

This is exactly the reason I have to come check the forum, no matter how much I'm busy... LOL :D:D:D

Anyway, Jaysmom,

IGM is the antibodies that only appear (few weeks?) right after you were exposed to the virus.

IGG is the one developes later, and stays in your body. So you get more stable result by testing IGG.

That's my understanding of IGM and IGG..

Best wishes,

Faith

H can't live long outside of body

dear jaysmom,

i've read in several places that herpes cannot live long outside the body. so even if your son got into your lip balm, he probably didn't contract it from that, unless you were shedding and used it and he got into it right afterward. i don't know if that information helps you any, but i just thought you'd like to know.

i also think that your husband would rather continue getting kisses from you and risk the small chance of transmission when there is no outbreak. He married you because he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you -- and I'm sure he fully intended on kissing you the entire time. Also, he might already carry the virus and not show symptoms. So you see? No need to cut off your head. =)

Whoa, Nellie!

I'm sure you've read the figures that like 80% of the poplulation has HSV-1. From that I have always assumed that most people I know have it, perhaps even me, but don't have recurrant outbreaks. They say most people get it as youngsters from relatives kissing them. If I had a child I would almost wonder if it's not better to get it early and build up antibodies. I know that might sound frightening but if you think about the statistics it kind of makes you wonder. Just thought this might be reassuring in evaluating the so-called worst case scenario (that he gets it from you). Also, my last boyfriend had it on his lip from time to time and I had it genitally. He never got it genitally from me although we were not overly careful (in couple mode, not too concerned). I have always thought that this may have been because he had it orally and was therefore resistant. Personally, I would rather have it orally.

I’m going to force him to get tested ! Thanks for your help !

@EssenceL25 there really isn't a question mark around the source, it's your latest partner. The median time from infection to an outbreak of lesions upon initial infection is 4 days.  The only thing that isn't certain is the type I suggest.

I asked if it was hsv 1 or 2 and the doctor said it was Hsv2. I’m not sure i just asked him when he was tested last he said this year I said I think we should go test together and he agreed . I’m going to bring it up again cause I really need to know if he gave this to me I wasn’t sure since it was so close to my previous relationship.

@EssenceL25 then it is all beyond reasonable doubt that the current partner is the source. A 'perfect' fit in terms of timing, symptoms and swab. It may be though that the type is not technically known. Culture swabs are very often not typed and just assumed to be HSV-2 if taken from a genital location. If you received oral sex in the days leading into 7 March then it is 50/50 as to whether this is HSV-1 or HSV-2. You could contact your doctor and confirm if the swab was actually typed (which is a second test where fluorescent antibodies for HSV-1 and HSV-2 are added and see which one 'glows').  If that test wasn't done then you do not know type. If you have oral HSV-1 yourself (cold sores) then this will be HSV-2. Does your partner have oral HSV-1? It is somewhat strange for him not to rush and test - many people have a 'reaction' if they truly do not know their status and have concerns that you infected them etc. (not initially rational of course). This indicates he may know his status - or maybe he just isn't simply the sharpest tool in the shed!?

I had flu like symptoms and ulcers on my vagina . They did a culture and I tested positive for hsv2. I asked my partner to get tested he agreed but I’m not sure if he will cause he hasn’t said anything else about it.
