Can anyone explain correlation with UTIs?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I just have a couple questions if anyone can help out. I have read the herpes virus can cause UTIs. Since UTIs are mostly bacterial, how/why does herpes cause one? If it causes one, does that mean you are having an ob? Or just a UTI? Also, intercourse can cause UTIs. I understand how that can happen, just so confused why a virus would have something to do with a UTI. I had a UTI a couple weeks ago, took a week of antibiotics, then took the diflucan for potential yeast, and right now cannot tell if my UTI is gone. I just don't feel normal. I could have yeast, but I also feel like when I have to pee I don't pee enough for how I feel. It doesn't burn, but I feel like it's not right. Can anyone help? It's getting annoying, because lately I've been constantly fearing getting an ob, but instead I get a UTI and/or yeast, and have to go through a week each time of treatment, etc. I am still constantly thinking about my vagina and it's not always because of H! I feel like H has done so many different things to my vagina that it will never be normal. Otherwise I am pretty okay mentally about it lately. I have people I can talk to - some friends, my boyfriend and my Mom, and I have all of you here to talk to or to help out. This place makes me feel better. I also want to know if UTIs mean I am having an ob because my boyfriend is negative. If I keep getting UTIs or yeast, plus mixed with H, I feel like he and I will never be able to have sex. Dammit. Just had to say that. Thanks for any help! :)

I never had a UTI until I was diagnosed with HSV1. I knew something was wrong b/c i never felt burning when i peed before. then i got a yeast infection b/c of all the antibiotics. Yeah I can't explain it but it happened to me to. But if i had known what a UTI was like I probably wouldn't have gone back to the Dr. and would have never been diagnosed. BUt I haven't had any new outbreaks since the initial one. My body is very sensitive and I know when something is wrong because it reacts. I suggest drinking lots of H2O and cranberry juice and see if that helps. have you tried taking any supplements that increase immunity??? I also started taking Vitamin C, and I did a body cleanse which was great. try those things maybe it will help.

I never had a UTI with my hsv1 infection, The only symptom I had while peeing was when the urine came into contact with my open sores. That is when i tried not to pee, because i knew what would happen next. I did get BV with my initial outbreak. I would try to buy at the pharmacy a UTI home test kit and check your self at home they are pretty accurate. People that have hsv genitally do get UTI symptoms but that is because the sores are in the urethral tract and that cause the burning painful urination. that is why i think that it is not the herpes that causes a UTI it is the sores that form in your urethra that causes the symptoms of a UTI. Hope this helped, take care.

Thanks for the info. I have not had sores since my initial ob. Just this UTI and yeast thing. This UTI did test positive for the e-coli bacteria that usually causes it, so I did go on antibiotics. I'm trying to fix whatever's going on now, with lots of cranberry juice. I read an article that says 16 8-oz. glasses in one day can completely flush out the bacteria. Guess I'm going to be pouring my cranberry juice into my wine glass tonight instead of wine! Ha!

PesPes, there is no cure. You can treat symptoms and try to prevent outbreaks, but you will always have the virus and be able to pass it along. There is NO CURE at this point.

Based on the sheet below, it would be around 10% per year without condoms with no active outbreaks. With condoms, 5.2% and condoms and antiviral therapy combined around 1.5-2.5%  https://herpesopportunity.com/downloads/herpes-opportunity-disclosure-handout.pdf

So is there anyone that has tried this for which Valtrex/Acyclovir/Famvir doesn't work and have constant symptoms and problems?   It's expensive but if like 1 pill a week would work it would be worth it.....Trying to figure out if this works for people that the current AV's don't...
